I’m sending mindlink alter minalink to get everyone in the pack to the medical centre that I need.

Sergia runs through the doors, holding Contad unconscious in her aims. We can see how bad this is in the bright medical lights. We could feel how cold he was as we cartled him, and we could sense how slow his heart rate was, but we weren’t prepared for how pale he was.

Serena starts whimpeting as her claw strokes his face, but we both know he needs me right now and not her. I shift back and start hooking him up to the monitor. Heart rate is in the 30s, and breathing is very laboured. I’m losing him.

1 rip his shirt off and see the hole in his left shoulder still bleeding, and the silver lines following his blood vessels spreading across his chest and up his neck.

Silver blood poisoning.

I can sense Conrad and Murdock coming into the room and instantly yell at them.

“WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. YOU WERE MEANT TO PROTECT HIM“.

Conner is the only one who speaks.

“Malik had an ambush prepared just in case, including silver bullets and shot Conrad. We took the bullet out within half an hour, but he kept getting sicker and sicker as we tried to bring him home“.

I need to get in and make sure they didn’t miss anything. I look at my hands and realise I am covered in blood and naked, but there is no time for this. I just need my hands clean to work right now.

I wash them under what feels like near–boiling water and scrub them with iodine. Someone is waiting with a towel to dry my hands and is already cleaning Conrad’s shoulder as per my mind–link.

As soon as the gloves are on, I grab a scapel and open up the wound. I don’t bother with sedation or numbing it, as I can feel his life force slipping away. I know I only have minutes. I can instantly see what happened. The bullet was designed to release large particles into the area when it hits its target, meaning it has made it into the tissue and bloodstream to slowly poison him.

I work as fast as I can to remove the infected tissue as the other medics hang bags of fresh blood from donors and start running the silver chelation therapy. I’m also pushing my life force through the bond to try and keep him stable, but I can’t give him enough fast enough. He is slipping away too fast.

I do the only thing I can do. I start pleading with him.

“Conrad. You can’t die on me. I need you. You need to hang on“.

Nothing.

I keep working, trying to save him. All the treatments have started, but they all take hours to work. He doesn’t have hours.

My eyes fly to the monitors as they start to alarm. His heart is panicking and has gone into ventricular fibrillation. I’m losing him.

I instantly start giving him CPR as Serena starts howling in my head. One of the medics runs in with a crash cart, and I charge the defibrillator.

“Charging to 200. Clear.

1 shock him and watch the screen for the change. Nothing. Another medic starts CPR again while I start giving meds. Still not in sinus rhythm.

“Shock him again. Charge to 200. Clear.

I start at the screen, praying for the change. Nothing.

I turn to Serena, hoping she has some Hail Mary we can use while I watch the medics give my mate, the father of my pups, CPR.

“Any ideas, Serena?“.

“We can give him our life force. We are at about 75% and the pups are at 100%. If we give him 50-60% of our life energy, it might buy him enough time for the treatment to work. I can keep the pups safe, but it would put us in a coma, though“.

We don’t even think about whether we want to do this. Losing our mates is not an option.

I leave as the medics keep working and order another gurney in the room. I grab a tourniquet and wrap it around my arm as I put a cannula into a vein.

Arthur is in the doorway now with Liam, and I can feel his stomach drop at the sight before him. Liam just stares at me, terrified.

I turn them and give orders. They both know not to argue with me.

“Arthur, you’re in charge of the pack as the appointed Alpha until one of us wakes up. Liam, you’re his Beta. It should only be a day or so. Do me proud“.

I get onto a gurney next to Conrad and instruct the medic to run fluids and sugars into both of us to give us nutrients and energy to get us through this.

As the medic still gives Conrad CPR, I tell them the plan.

“I’m going to give Conrad as much life energy as I can, but it will put me in a coma. As soon as I am unconscious, you need to move me to shock him again. If you don’t move me, you could kill me with the shock. You need to keep us together and touching as soon as he is in sinus rhythm“.

I look down at my pale mate and kiss him quickly on the lips.

“Come back to us, Shadow“.

I hold his hand tight and push as much life force through the bond to him as I can spare. It only takes about five seconds before I’m unconscious.

I can still hear the medics working and move my lifeless body.

“Charging to 200, Clear“.
