Chapter 212
Conrad POV
I notice the antiseptic smell first. I try to open my eyes, but the light above me burns when I do. Where the hell am I?
I try to push myself up, and even though a strange feeling in my arm surprises me, it’s nothing compared to the pain I feel in my ribs. I feel like I have been hit by a truck. I try to talk, but my mouth feels like sand.
“Easy, Alpha King. Your home. You safe“.
My eyes slowly adjust to the light, and I start to recognise one of my medics staring at me.
“I have mind–linked Beta Liam. He’s coming“.
I try to talk, but it comes out as more of a croak. “Water“.
They scurry away, grab a cup from a nearby tray, and hand it to me. They have to help me sit up slightly to drink it, but I feel instant relief as the cool water washes over my tongue.
Just as I take my last gulp, Liam comes running in and jumps on the bed to hug me.
“Holy shit, it worked. You’re awake“.
He barely noticed me in pain until the medic started yelling at him.
“BETA. HE HAS SEVEN BROKEN RIBS. GET OFF HIM“.
Liam starts to panic. “Shit. Sorry, sorry“.
The medic jumps into action and starts pushing meds into my IV, which was the strange feeling in my arm before. I can tell it’s morphine as soon as it hits me. The warm feeling instantly lessened the pain.
I can hear Arthur is next in the door and instantly rolls his eyes when he sees Liam looking freaked out and the medic pushing morphine into my line.
“Honestly, Liam, you need to think things through“.
My mouth is starting to feel dry again, so I try to croak out something before my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
“What Happened?“,
The room goes silent. I keep slowly opening my eyes and letting them adjust to the light. It’s getting there, but everything is still very fuzzy. I focus on Liam when he starts to talk, and the medic helps me with more water.
“Conrad. Two days ago. You died. The broken ribs are from CPR. What do you remember?“,
What the fuck. I died. I instantly try to contact Jace. Having a wolf soul move on when the human side is not uncommon. The reverse happened in Lewana’s mum, where the human side passed on.

Chapter 212
“You there, buddy“.
He replies softly. “Yeah. Weak“.
:
I let out a sigh of relief and try to think back. I remember being shot and running for my life with Conner and Murdock. I don’t remember anything after the first night it went dark at night.
I try to relay this. “Connor. Murdock. Shot“.
Liam comes closer and speaks gently as his voice shakes with nerves and possibly tears. “Yeah, that’s right. The Gala was five days ago. You were on the run for three days before you made it close enough to home. Alpha James of the Eastern Moonfang pack sent his warrior to assassinate you for Malik. Luna Queen must have known you were nearby and single–handedly saved all three of you“.
That’s my girl.
A realisation suddenly dawns on me, and I croak again. “Where is she?“.
Liam croaks this time. “She performed CPR on you when you died, but you were too weak. She managed to transfer a lot of her life force to you through the mate bond to keep you alive so you could start to heal“.
SHE WHAT. She shouldn’t have done that. My mate. My pups. I start to look around frantically, which is when I see her next to me.
I go still with fear as my heart breaks and my stomach drops through the floor. I try to get up quickly to get to her, which is when all the alarms start going off as my heart rate spikes.
Liam starts pleading with me to lie down, but I use all the strength I have to push him away. He barely moves but seems shocked and
unsure.
Arthur steps in and grabs my shoulder, forcing me down onto the bed. I struggle under him to get free, but it’s clear he isn’t moving.
“Son, you need to focus on me. Breathe. Deep breaths“.
I call out to my sleeping Moonlight. Not sure if I’m trying to wake her or get her to order him off me.
“Lewana“.
“She’s in a coma. If you want to help her, you need to breathe. Come on, son. Breathe through it. Focus“.
