My heart was doing that weird flip again whenever I was near him. However, it was paired with the disbelief that he was actually standing right in front of us.
Princess lifted her head and was about to apologize, but it seemed the words got caught in the back of her throat. She straight–up gawked at him.
“S―sorry,” she managed to say a little later, a small smile appearing on her lips. “I wasn’t looking very well.”
Her venomous tone had toned down, and she now sounded demure. I wanted to scoff due to the quick shift of her demeanor. However, I was too consumed by my surprise.
How does he know I was attending this school?
I could hear the others whispering around us, all of them sharing the same sentiment.
He’s hot.
Standing in this crowd filled with students in their 20s, his looks stood out even more. Even Joshua, who was standing next to him, had to square his shoulders to pacify his self–esteem. However, the top of his head merely reached his chin.
“Hot diggity damn,” Marcel muttered right next to me. “Who is this fine specimen?”
I would have chuckled then, but I was too focused on him. Seeing him here was surreal, and seeing the reactions around us solidified my awe even more.
“Abel,” I finally called his name.
In an instant, their gazes snapped toward me. I could feel their stares burning on the sides of my face. Marcel even let out a gasp and covered her mouth. Meanwhile, Princess and her posse frowned while looking between me and Abel.
“Luna,” he said my name, and I swore, it was so silent that you could hear a pin drop.
“Could you move?” he gruffly asked Princess, who still appeared out of her mind. She unconsciously stepped away, but she stumbled, and Joshua caught her.
He stood in front of me, a small frown playing on his forehead.

“Abel,” I repeated. “What are you doing here?”

Perhaps… did he come here for me? I shook my head at the thought. Maybe he had a sister here? But why? Springfield wasn’t too good. Elite Order Academy was in Fenra, and it was one of the best schools in the world, so it didn’t make sense.
Before he could respond, Princess spoke, interrupting the conversation. She had that certain look in her eyes–one that said she very much liked what she was seeing. She had the same look while looking at my mom’s diner and the clothes I bought from the thrift store.
She wanted him.
I bit my lip and looked at the ground.
“You need to go, Abel,” I said because I was sure Princess was going to inquire about our “relationship.” Well, non–existent relationship.
“You’re Abel?” she asked. Abel’s expression remained neutral.
“Yes,” he answered, and whispers began spreading like wildfire at the confirmation.
“Nice to meet you,” she said, offering her hand. Abel looked at it for a short while before taking her hand and giving it a quick shake. I had to look away because Princess was casting me another smug look.
“I didn’t expect you to be so… handsome,” she added in a slightly flirty tone. Joshua frowned beside her, but it seemed she didn’t mind. However, when I looked up, he was looking at me and not at her. I sighed and shook my head. This was getting too complicated.
Marcel tugged on my sleeve. “Girl, that’s Abel?” she whisper–shouted.
“So,” Princess began. “Is it true then?”
“Is what true?” he asked.
Princess‘ smirk grew wider. I dreaded her next question.
“That you’re together with Luna?” she asked with a soft giggle. “She has been telling everyone about her boyfriend, and we didn’t think you existed, but here you are.”
I bit my lip. Crap. I was so excited seeing him here that I didn’t think this would happen. I closed my eyes for a moment because I felt he was going to deny it.
“Is that so?” he asked, glancing at me. I opened my eyes and caught his gaze, seeing an ounce of amusement. My breath hitched while the others waited for his response.

“No, right?” Princess asked. “Is she just someone you know?”

There was a moment of silence, probably only for a couple of seconds, but it felt like eternity.
to me.
There was a tense moment of silence. No one moved. No one breathed. Even the birds that usually chirped over the courtyard seemed to have gone mute.
Abel’s gaze went between the Princess and me. My pulse thundered in my ears. Any second now, he was going to say it wasn’t true and that I made it all up.
My throat tightened. I could already feel the heat of humiliation climbing up my neck, preparing to burn me alive in front of everyone.
“No.”
“We’re together.”
My head snapped up. “What?” It slipped out before I could stop myself.
“What?” Princess asked at the same time.
The collective gasp that followed echoed through the courtyard. Princess‘ jaw dropped. Joshua’s brows shot up, his hand half–raised as though frozen mid–gesture. Marcel stumbled backward, clutching her chest while looking at me.
