From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 106

The group settled onto the plush couches while the housekeeper brought out a tray of fresh fruit and pastries—apple slices, grapes, and a plate of warm cinnamon rolls alongside steaming mugs of Earl Grey.

Adelina Lane, never one to miss a beat, produced a crisp envelope out of nowhere and handed it to Olivia Bennett. “Here you go, Olivia,” she said with a warm smile. “I won’t get all sentimental, but I just wish you both a happy, peaceful life together.”

Olivia took the envelope and nodded, “Thanks, Mom.”

Adelina chuckled. “Now, I can’t compare to your grandma’s level of preparation. Gifts for the baby will have to wait until later.”

Lily George puffed up with pride. “I made sure to get something special for my great-grandchild, thank you very much.”

After all, they’d kept this big news from her. Sure, it was for her own good, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t put on a little show of being miffed.

She’d even prepared a surprise herself and hadn’t told them a word.

Olivia was genuinely surprised by Lily George’s playful personality—she was such a sweet, cheeky old lady. Reminded her so much of her own grandma back home.

The stiffness that had been with her since she walked in quietly melted away. She looked at Lily George, feeling a new sense of closeness.

Olivia grinned, “Even if you gave it now, the baby wouldn’t know what to do with it.”

Lily waved her hand dismissively, her tone full of grandmotherly generosity. “Well, if the baby can’t use it, you can. And when you’re done, Grandma’s got plenty more where that came from.”

It was such an over-the-top, Carter Family thing to say—the kind of remark only the matriarch of the most prominent family in town could pull off.

Olivia just laughed, and suddenly another envelope appeared in front of her.

Lance Carter cleared his throat and put on his best serious dad face. “Just take care of Ethan and build a good life together.”

Short and to the point.

Olivia accepted the envelope, her “Thank you, Dad,” rolling off her tongue with practiced ease.

“Gifts for the baby will come later,” he added, and Olivia couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright.”
