Ethan Carter gave a nonchalant “Yeah,” his eyebrow arched in challenge. “What, don’t tell me you do?”
“…”
Of course, he didn’t.
But was that really something to mock him for?
Carlson Baker pressed his fingers to his temple, amusement flickering in his eyes. “You know what you look like right now?”
Ethan just raised an eyebrow at him.
Carlson smirked. “Like a peacock showing off its feathers.”
He gave a short laugh, shaking his head. “Man, love really does wonders, huh? Never thought I’d see the day our ice-cold Mr. Carter turned into a softie.”
Ethan’s eyes flickered, but he didn’t reply.
Carlson let out a long, dramatic sigh. “Well, that’s just great. Now you’re married with a kid, and I don’t even have you to use as my human shield anymore.”
His mom had been on his case about settling down for years, but as long as Ethan was single, he always had an excuse.
Not anymore.
Now Ethan was married, and even had a baby.
Which meant his mom had fresh ammo to guilt-trip him.
Just thinking about it made him want to crawl under a rock.
Ethan looked up at him and said, “Getting married isn’t so bad. You’re about the right age for it. Maybe you should give it a shot.”
Carlson stared at him in disbelief.
Did he just hear that right?
Was Ethan Carter of all people pushing him to get married?
“This world’s gone insane,” he muttered, shaking his head. Then he clapped Ethan on the shoulder. “I guess I shouldn’t hang out with you anymore. Married guys and bachelors are clearly from different planets.”
“You really don’t want to get married?” Ethan asked, studying him.
