From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 89

“I was just passing by the flower shop, thought these looked beautiful, so I picked up a bunch.”

Olivia Bennett pressed her lips together and let out a soft little “oh,” glancing down at the bouquet in her hands. She mumbled, “They *are* pretty nice.”

The roses were a deep, vibrant red—lush and bold, gathered together in a passionate display.

Olivia stared at them for a couple of seconds before she lifted her gaze and looked out the window, just as a sleek black Rolls Royce glided past.

The blurred shape of the person inside made Olivia’s mood drop a few notches, as if someone had flipped a switch. The smile faded from her face, and her lips pressed into a hard line.

She watched the car head off in the direction of her studio.

So, he hadn’t gotten what he wanted this morning, and now he was coming back to try again.

It was almost laughable, really. If he wanted to get into The Bennett Group and carve out a place for himself there, all Daniel Gill could do was keep trying to win Lavinia Bennett over—over and over again.

And Lavinia? She seemed hell-bent on making Olivia’s life as difficult as possible.

Once Lavinia made up her mind, there was no changing it. Daniel couldn’t persuade her, so his only option was to try and threaten her.

Olivia’s eyes dropped, her expression shadowed and hard to read. A faint, bitter smile tugged at her lips.

Ethan Carter hadn’t caught what just happened, but he could clearly sense her mood shift.

Remembering something Adelina Lane had said, he assumed Olivia’s thoughts must’ve turned to Daniel Gill.

Instantly, the warmth faded from Ethan’s dark eyes, replaced with something much colder, deeper—as if staring into a black lake at midnight.

He glanced at her and asked in his usual, low voice, “How was your day?”

His calm tone snapped Olivia out of her thoughts. She stared at the roses in her lap and replied absently, “It was fine.”

Her voice was light and flat, giving nothing away.

And that—giving nothing away—was worse than any answer.

Normally, even if Olivia wasn’t exactly bubbling with excitement, there’d be a little smile in her eyes, a gentle curve to her lips when she talked.
