Athena tucked the blanket gently around Teri, then turned her head to find Zaden still standing there.
She motioned for him to step outside so they could speak privately.
He gave a short nod.
The two of them slipped quietly out of the room.
“Mr. Storm, Teri’s situation is very serious,” Athena said, her expression tight and her clouded with worry.
Zaden responded with a low, steady hum.
eyes
“But don’t worry,” Athena added quickly. “She’s only like this because of the trauma she’s suffered. With the right guidance, she’ll recover in time.”
“Guidance? From who?” Harriet suddenly interjected, blurting the words out.
Athena’s gaze hardened with resolve. “I’ll help her.”
At that, Zaden’s eyes lingered on her. It was unreadable and carried a weight of emotion she couldn’t untangle.
“Won’t that be too much for you?” he asked quietly.
“Not at all,” Athena answered firmly. “Teri and I are connected. Since I’ve already chosen to help her, I’ll see it through until she’s truly well again.”
“Thank you, Ms. Hall,” Zaden said. “I’ll compensate you.”
He didn’t want to make the offer because it felt far too transactional. But it was the only form of gratitude he knew how to give.
Athena wasn’t doing this for money,
She wanted to make that clear, yet in the end, she stayed silent.
Just then, Tommy stepped forward and whispered something in Zaden’s ear. A flicker of sharpness flashed in Zaden’s eyes before his expression smoothed again.
“I have something to attend to,” he said, and turned to leave with Tommy.

Watching their retreating figures, Athena murmured, “I wonder if that was about Teri… He seemed unsettled.”
“Unsettled? Of course!” Harriet snorted. “He’s about to cut ties with his own mother. Who wouldn’t be shaken by that?”
Cut ties?
Athena wasn’t sure what to say. Still, considering Beverly was at the root of everything, including Teri’s suffering, Zaden’s anger made perfect sense.
She remembered the time she had wanted to ask if he trusted Beverly.
Now the truth was obvious.
Harriet’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, and the moment she read the message, her eyes flew wide. “Unbelievable! That bastard, Lewis!”
“What happened?” Athena asked, startled.
“See for yourself.” Harriet shoved the phone at her.
Athena scanned the screen, her face darkening as her brows pulled together.
It wasn’t catastrophic news, but still a blow. The Belmonts had just released a public announcement. Lewis and Nina were officially engaged, with the wedding set for a month from
now.
The details of the ceremony remained undisclosed.
That alone was irrelevant to Athena.
What mattered was the rest of the statement. The Belmonts had issued their response to the scandal, confirming the rumors about Athena being a “contractual wife.”
According to the statement, because Nina had suffered complications during childbirth and Dion had needed a maternal caretaker, Lewis had “hired” Athena to look after him.
Once Nina recovered, Athena was expected to step aside. Instead, she supposedly grew greedy for the role of Mrs. Belmont, which explained the “scene” she had caused at the birthday banquet.
The message was clear: Athena had been nothing more than a glorified nanny, driven by ambition, while Lewis and Nina were innocent.
Athena’s eyes went cold, though her composure never wavered.
