From Betrayal to Brilliance Her Rise to a New Life
Chapter 121 Summer Camp
So he’s explaining why we ended up sleeping next to each other last night, Athena thought.
So that’s what happened.

Wait a second–he carried me back to the bedroom? Wouldn’t it have been fine to just leave me on the couch?
And he said I clung to him, refusing to let go. Did I really do that while drunk?
A whirlwind of questions raced through Athena’s mind, but Zaden was already rising to his feet. He gave her a glance and said, “Don’t worry. I’m not gonna ask you to make it up to me.”
With that, he strode out of the room.
Athena froze as a heavy wave of despair settled over her, the kind that made her want to dig a hole in the ground.
After washing up, Athena went into the living room for breakfast.
Harriet was already seated at the table with Teri. Luckily, Zaden hadn’t come out yet, which eased Athena’s nerves considerably.
“Morning, Teri. Did you sleep well last night?” Athena greeted warmly, a soft smile on her face.
Teri nodded, showing she’d slept fine.
As Athena sat down, she noticed Harriet staring at her with a sly grin, like someone who caught her stealing from the cookie jar.
Athena frowned. “What? Do I have something on my face?”
“Hehe… Why don’t you just go for it with Zaden? Start fresh. Live a little,” Harriet teased.
Athena had no words. She knew Harriet had been trying to push her and Zaden together for a while, but it wasn’t right. They came from entirely different worlds.
Seeing Athena ignore her, Harriet couldn’t resist adding, “But you two already slept together!”
Athena quickly cut her off. “He only carried me to the bedroom, and I wouldn’t let him leave, so we accidentally fell asleep like that. It was purely an accident.”
“Then why didn’t he carry me? He left me on the couch. I nearly froze and caught a cold!”

She was right–why hadn’t Zaden carried Harriet but had carried her instead?
Shaking herself out of it, Athena reminded herself not to jump to conclusions. Most likely, Harriet had caused a drunken scene, and Zaden had simply ignored her.
Just then, Zaden emerged, still damp from his shower.
A few wet strands of hair fell across his forehead, giving him a slightly disheveled, brooding look that somehow made him even more striking.
He took his seat and said to Harriet, “I wanted to carry you to your room, but you clung to the couch pillow, insisting on sleeping with your ‘darling.”
Harriet fired back immediately, “Don’t make things up! I’d never do something that humiliating. You’re slandering me!”
“Should I pull up the security footage?” Zaden asked calmly.
Harriet froze.
Athena almost burst out laughing—it was so typical of her friend.
Harriet’s face turned red as she muttered under her breath, “Tsk, he says there’s nothing between them, and yet he rushes to defend her over a joke.”
After breakfast, Harriet left.
The house suddenly felt quieter, leaving just Athena, Zaden, and, of course, Teri.
To avoid any awkwardness, Athena stayed close to Teri, doing most of the talking while the little girl simply nodded or shook her head in response.
Even though Teri still refused to speak, Athena wasn’t discouraged.
The fact that she was opening up enough to respond at all was already progress.
While keeping Teri company, Athena noticed Zaden dressed and ready for work. He walked over. “I’m heading out. Call me if anything comes up.”
Athena waved him off. “Drive safely.”
Once he left, Athena felt a sudden impulse. She turned to Teri. “Teri, do you want to go out? How about I take you somewhere fun?”
