Deep down, Athena hesitated. Maybe this isn’t a good idea.

Photos like this are supposed to capture couples in love, and Zaden and I didn’t exactly marry for love. There really is no need for one.
Before she could voice her objection, Zaden had already taken her hand and led her forward.
He handed his phone to the nearby couple and said, “Would you mind taking a picture of me and my wife?”
Athena froze.
My wife… From today onward, I’ll be Mrs. Storm, huh?
“Athena, what’s going through your mind?”
Zaden’s voice brushed against her ear, grounding her. She forced a small smile. “Nothing. Just… feels like I hit the jackpot.”
She’d just closed the chapter with Lewis, and now here she was, married to Zaden, Vlephia’s elite.
Not even in her wildest dreams would she have imagined this.
“Look here, get ready. One, two, three … Lean in closer!”
As the young couple’s voices rang out, Zaden wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and she instinctively rested her head against him.
“Wow, you two look perfect together!”
The bride’s grin was wide, her compliments endless, and Athena felt a flush of embarrassment.
Back in the car, Zaden sent her the photo. She stared at the image of them holding their fresh marriage certificates, still a little dazed. Anyone who didn’t know the truth would think they were a genuinely happy couple.
Suddenly, Zaden’s phone rang.
He glanced at it, a subtle crease forming between his brows.
Athena noticed. “Who is it?”
“My mother.”

He answered, his tone icy, a clear signal that he and Beverly were far from cordial. “What do you want?”
“You’d really cut ties with me over that bastard child?” Beverly’s furious voice erupted from the other end.
The car was small, and with Athena in the passenger seat, she couldn’t help but hear every word. Even if Beverly had spoken more quietly, it would have been impossible to miss.
This was Zaden’s private matter. She had no right to interfere.
So Athena stayed silent, sitting calmly, giving him space to handle it.
“Teri is my daughter, not a bastard,” Zaden said firmly, his expression darkening.
On the other end came uneven breaths, followed by frantic cries from a servant. “Mrs. Storm … Mrs. Storm, what’s wrong? Please wake up …
“Mr. Zaden, Mrs. Storm has fainted! What should we do?”
Zaden pinched the bridge of his nose, voice low and steady. “Call an ambulance.”
No sooner had he spoken than Beverly’s weak, trembling voice filtered through. “Zaden, come back now … or do you want me dead before you show up?”
Zaden paused, then replied evenly, “Alright.”
When he hung up, silence fell over the car.
Athena had no words. Zaden handled it with such composure, as if this kind of crisis were routine for him.
“Sorry you had to witness that,” he said, his regret genuine.
“It’s fine,” Athena said, shaking her head.
He started the car. “I’ll need to go home for a bit.”
As they drove, Athena realized that he was taking her with him.
Storm Estate.
Beverly pressed her fingers to her temple as a servant handed her a cup of hot tea. “Mrs. Storm,” the servant whispered, “Mr. Zaden still cares about you. You called him back, and he came
