Lewis stepped forward eagerly, moving closer to Athena. “Athena, are you tired? Do you want to take a break?” he asked with obvious concern.

Athena heard Lewis’s voice droning on like a broken record, and her mouth twitched. This felt worse than getting lost in the mountains.

“No need,” she replied coldly.

Right now, she needed to get down the mountain fast. She needed to escape Lewis as fast as possible.

Lewis was scarier than anything lurking in the dark.

Following behind Athena, Lewis didn’t get discouraged by her cold attitude. Instead, he stayed happy just having these brief moments near her, keeping that smile plastered on his face.

This made Athena’s skin crawl.

Is this guy some kind of masochist? The more I pushed him away, the more excited he got.

With the staff member leading, their descent went smoothly. At the mountain’s base, several figures waited anxiously, constantly watching the trail entrance.

One small figure kept staring at the entrance, afraid to look away. She was terrified she might miss even the smallest sign of Athena.

Next to Teri, Dion stood with his arms crossed and an aloof expression. But his eyes stayed fixed on the mountain trail entrance too.

He was deeply worried about his mother, but he felt that as a man, he couldn’t cry and carry on the way he’d seen girls do.

Nearby, Linda and the other families gathered together, all wearing worried expressions. As the hiking trip organizer, Linda faced even more criticism.

“Oh no, if something happened to Mrs. Storm, I’ll feel terrible,” she said.

“I hope Athena can come back safely.”

Teri nodded through her tears.
