Daisy hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Mrs. Storm, what if Mr. Zaden finds out about all this? Do you think he’ll side with Ms. Hall? If he steps in, all your effort will go to waste.”

Beverly turned serious at Daisy’s words.

Zaden wasn’t the obedient son he used to be. He was completely out of her hands now. If he learned she was the one pulling strings behind his back, he might actually take Athena’s side and cut her off for good.

But Beverly quickly came up with an idea.

She squinted, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes as she gave a cold snort. “That’s easy. Just blame someone else. Then it’ll have nothing to do with me.”

Then, she suddenly remembered something. “Oh, right. Didn’t you say Athena’s ex–husband was locked up at that summer camp for trying to rape someone?”

“Yeah, he’s still inside. Mr. Zaden gave orders to keep him there, so he probably won’t be out anytime soon. The Belmonts are still trying to get him released.”

Beverly hadn’t stepped into Zaden and Athena’s relationship before.

But after they got their marriage certificate, the two of them flaunted it in front of her and even went to the summer camp together as a couple. It made her furious.

The Jynns even came to question her about it.

She had to calm them down by lying that Athena was just someone Zaden had hired temporarily. That excuse finally worked.

Now, it seemed like she needed to find a way to clear things up about Athena.

There was no way she’d let Athena and Zaden be linked together again!

After thinking for a bit, Beverly smiled mockingly. “Athena’s ex–husband is still obsessed with her and wants her back.

“Set things up and get him released.

“If he keeps clinging to her, that’ll definitely make Zaden sick of her. A woman who can’t cut ties with her ex? He’ll lose interest fast. That way, I won’t even need to step in myself.”

Maybe they were worried something else might go wrong. The summer camp ended early because of Athena’s situation, and everyone went home.

But her problems were just getting started.

She had Kit dig up dirt on Albas and found out he was hiding a mistress and an illegitimate child. Using that as leverage, she decided to follow Kit’s suggestion and start there.

Since Albas had worked so hard to keep that secret, he clearly didn’t want Pandra to find out. That meant he’d be desperate to cover it up, which made things easier for Athena.

The next morning, Athena called Kit and asked him to drive her to Albas‘ company.

She wasn’t dumb. There was no way she’d go alone. Having Kit with her was like bringing a bodyguard. He agreed right away and showed up at her apartment on time.

Athena threw on a disguise and climbed into his car.

Kit glanced at her and clicked his tongue. “Didn’t you marry Zaden? And you’re still living in a place like this?”

She rolled her eyes. “We’re not really married. He doesn’t owe me a house. Besides, with all the drama going on, I don’t want to drag anyone else into it until it’s over.”

He gave her a puzzled look. “So you and Zaden are really just pretending?”

Athena shot back, “Didn’t I already tell you? It’s all for Teri. I plan to work at Professor Warner’s hospital, and Zaden happens to be a shareholder. I’m just trying to get into his good books. Maybe I’ll actually gain some influence there.”

Kit frowned, sounding a bit hurt. “You’ve got my whole family behind you, and you still don’t know how to use that?”

She looked a little dazed. “My situation is complicated. It’s better if I stay away from the Rices for now.”

He was quiet for a bit. He knew she wanted nothing to do with the Rices. He looked like he wanted to argue, but he sighed instead.

“Alright, but don’t worry. Having me around is basically the same as having the Rices backing you.”

Kit might have been the second son, but he still had plenty of power. He’d already helped Athena out more than once.

If Athena wanted, Kit could easily deal with Albas himself.
