Chapter 191 Overthink
Athena still felt a little shy.
She could only pretend to sleep to calm the heat rising in her chest.

She didn’t dare face Zaden, so she turned her back toward him. That way, she wouldn’t have to risk mecting his eyes and getting even more embarrassed. Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t even realize when she finally drifted off.
The next morning, Athena woke up right on time.
She sat up quickly, only to see Zaden already awake–and changing his clothes.
The sight hit her like a shockwave. For a second, she completely froze, staring blankly at him, her mind going totally blank.
Zaden paused with a button half–done and said quietly, “Good morning.”
That snapped her out of it. Athena coughed lightly and turned her gaze away. “You’re up early.”
“I’m used to it.”
She hesitated for a moment, then mumbled, “I’ll go wash up,” and escaped into the bathroom.
Zaden looked at her retreating, the corners of his lips lifting in a quiet smile as he finished buttoning his shirt.
It looked like Athena wasn’t entirely indifferent to him after all.
When Athena came out dressed, her ankle felt perfectly fine–the soreness from the night before had completely vanished thanks to the lotion Zaden applied.
Zaden, already neat and ready to go, looked up at her. “Athena, do you want to visit the church nearby?”
At his words, Athena remembered Tommy mentioning that this little town had a famous old
church.
It was only because it was the festive season that the hotel had no rooms available.
After everything that had happened in Vlephia—how dangerous things had gotten and how trapped she felt–it didn’t sound bad to forget her troubles for a while.

She nodded lightly. “Sure. Let’s go.”

They had planned to head back today, but both of them changed their minds. When they stepped out of the hotel, Tommy was already standing by the car, looking fresh and cheerful.
Athena raised a brow. “Tommy, did you really sleep in the car last night?”
Tommy coughed awkwardly, then grinned. “Actually, the hotel suddenly had a room open in the middle of the night, so I checked in. Lucky me, huh?”
His laugh sounded a little too forced.
Athena couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Seriously? The hotel suddenly had a room?
If she’d known, she wouldn’t have had to share one with Zaden.
But then again, since they were technically married now, it shouldn’t matter. She told herself not to overthink it.
Even if we accidentally slept together, it wouldn’t be illegal …
Then she froze. Wait–what the hell am I thinking?
She shook her head hard, mentally scolding herself. Get it together, Athena!
We only got married to deal with Teri. Now that she’s fine, Zaden’s probably going to end this whole fake marriage soon anyway.
She forced the thought out of her mind and refocused.
“Oh, right,” she said suddenly, looking up at Zaden. “Since we’re staying a little longer, do you think Teri will be okay alone?”
“Kate’s taking care of her,” Zaden replied calmly.
Athena nodded. She trusted Kate completely, so that put her mind at ease.
Tommy started the car and drove them toward the church.
Athena and Zaden sat together in the back seat.
Athena turned to look out the window. As the scenery flew by, her mood slowly lightened.
She tried not to think about Lewis or Albas.
If she really wanted to end this whole mess, it would be easy–she could just talk to Fabio. But she didn’t want anything more to do with the Rices.
