Chapter 219 Fireflies in the Dark
Zaden couldn’t help but smile at what Teri said.
Guess he wasn’t as open–minded as a kid after all.

Athena got into Lewis‘ car and sat in the back seat with Dion.
Dion slumped onto her, his eyes shut, brows drawn together so tightly it hurt to look at.
His mouth was open, breathing uneven and shallow. Athena gently pressed a few points on his back to help him breathe easier.

Her mind drifted to the past. Every time Dion had an allergic reaction, she used to panic. After identifying all his allergens and cutting out anything risky, she had managed to keep things under control for years.
But this time, the reaction hit fast and hard. It had to be triggered by someone.
Athena’s eyes darkened, a cold chill flashing through them.
They reached the hospital quickly. Since the staff had been notified in advance, nurses were already waiting outside with a stretcher. The moment they took Dion, they rushed him into the emergency room.
Athena and Lewis waited outside.
Lewis looked at her tense face and said, “Looks like you still care about Dion. Sure, Nina gave birth to him, but you raised him for eight years. Raising a child means more than giving birth. He still cares about you and sees you as his mom.”
Hearing his self–righteous tone, anger surged through Athena.
She stepped forward and slapped him across the face.
The sharp sound echoed down the hallway. People nearby turned to look, but Lewis didn’t even flinch.
He actually smiled. “Athena, I know you’re upset because Dion’s sick. I’ll let you take it out on me, but that slap really stung.”
Athena glared at him coldly. “Dion does have allergies, but I’ve managed them perfectly fine. The reason he got this bad is because of you!

“Lewis Belmont, you’re still as cruel as ever. Even if Dion is your son, you’d still use him if it meant getting what you want.
“You don’t deserve to be his father.”
Lewis didn’t even bother denying it. He just smirked. “Athena, you know me. I’ll stop at nothing to get what I want. And you already know exactly what that is.
“Leave Zaden,” he warned. “If you don’t, I won’t hesitate to do things you’ll regret.”
Athena’s face turned pale with disgust. He was revolting.
She should never have gotten involved with him in the first place.
“What happens between me and Zaden has nothing to do with you. Whether we stay together or not isn’t your concern. You’re just my ex–husband.”
With that, Athena turned and walked away.
Lewis didn’t chase her. He just watched her go, his expression calm and confident. He was sure she’d come back to him eventually.
Fine, he’d wait.
Outside the hospital, Athena stood still for a moment.
It took her a while to calm down. Finally, she took a deep breath, hailed a cab, and went home.
When she arrived at her apartment building, she paid the driver and got out.
She froze when she spotted a familiar car parked nearby–it was Zaden’s.
He was sitting in the driver’s seat, looking like he’d been waiting a while. Athena’s chest tightened. She remembered what she’d decided earlier–to set things straight between them.
After a moment to steady herself, she walked over and asked, “Why are you still here? Have been waiting long?”

Zaden glanced at her and said quietly, “Get in.”
Athena opened the door and climbed in. Zaden started the car and drove off. Her heart raced a little as she asked, “Where are we going?”
“You’ll see soon enough.”
