Athena looked in the mirror at her tired reflection and forced a weak smile.

She looked terrible.

She thought her relationship with Zaden hadn’t lasted long, so she shouldn’t be this heartbroken. But one glance at herself proved otherwise. Athena quickly applied some makeup to bring color back to her face, then followed Kit out the door.

They reached the place quickly.

It was a high–end venue with elegant decor and an air of sophistication. Everything about it screamed wealth and exclusivity. Definitely not the kind of place Athena usually went.

She turned to Kit and asked, “So what kind of meeting is this?”

She had met Fabio before, but an invitation to a place like this was new—and suspicious.

“Uh… well, you’re already here,” Kit said vaguely. “You’ll know once you go inside.”

He avoided her gaze, his tone too casual, which only made Athena more suspicious.

Still, she didn’t press him further and walked straight into the restaurant.

A waiter quickly came forward. “Good afternoon. Do you have a reservation?”

Kit gave the number for their private room. The waiter nodded and led them down the hall. Not far away, Harriet stepped out from another room. She spotted Kit and Athena just as they turned a corner. She was about to call out to them but stopped when they disappeared into a private suite.

Harriet had no idea how many people were inside, so she didn’t dare barge in.

She pulled out her phone and texted Athena instead.

No response. Harriet sighed and lowered her phone.

Just as she was about to leave, she overheard a few waiters whispering nearby. When she caught Kit’s name, she paused and leaned closer to listen.

“The top suite’s full of Vlephia’s elites,” one said.

“The guy who just went in must be one of the Rices’s sons,” another gushed. “He’s ridiculously handsome. I walked them in earlier and accidentally bumped into the door–he actually shielded me. Such a gentleman!”

The waitress looked dreamy, clearly thrilled just talking about it.

“So that really was the Rices’s heir,” someone added. “He’s so mysterious. I’ve never seen him on social media before.”

“And who was the woman with him? She was stunning.”

“No idea,” another whispered. “She kinda looked like Athena–the woman who was all over the news a while ago–but I’m not totally sure.”

Then one of them lowered her voice even more. “Oh, and before they came, I went in to serve tea and overheard something … Today’s a matchmaking event!”

“What?”

Hearing that, Harriet couldn’t help but gasp in surprise.

She rushed toward the waitresses. “Did you just say Kit’s here for a matchmaking event? And the woman with him too?”

The waitresses froze, caught off guard.

They’d just been gossiping about guests–something that could get them in serious trouble if a manager found out.

And now this lady might know the people involved. If she complained, they’d lose their bonuses–or even their jobs.

“Sorry! We didn’t say anything!” one blurted.

“We should get back to work,” another added quickly.

They scattered, all color draining from their faces.
