Chapter 229 Say Goodbye Properly

The villa felt empty and quiet. Zaden brought Athena a brand–new pair of slippers. After she changed into them, she looked at Zaden and asked, “Where’s Teri?”
“Upstairs.”
Athena didn’t wait for Zaden to lead the way. She headed up the stairs herself.
The first room she came to was Teri’s. The girl was sitting by the big window, looking out at the greenery, her figure unusually lonely.
Athena remembered Teri as such a bubbly, cheerful kid.
She hadn’t expected that all that energy had just been an act. Deep down, Teri was struggling. She just wanted people to see her as a perfect kid, so she tried extra hard to leave a good impression.
After she found out about Athena and Zaden, all of her bottled–up feelings had come pouring
out.
“You didn’t explain things to Teri? Even if I broke up with you, nothing will change between me and her. We’ll still be just like before.”
Zaden stood behind Athena and said quietly, “I told her.”
Athena let out a helpless sigh.
She didn’t say anything more and walked in to sit beside Teri, speaking softly, “Hey, Teri, Athena’s here.”
Teri glanced at Athena, then lowered her head again.
There was none of the old enthusiasm or happiness from before. She just looked downcast and withdrawn. Seeing her like that made Athena’s heart heavy, too.
Athena tried to joke, “What’s wrong? I thought you liked me. Why do you look so unhappy to see me now? Don’t you want to see me?”
Teri’s lips trembled. She mumbled, “You’re leaving my dad, so you won’t be with me anymore. Athena, you should just go.”
Athena sighed. “What happens between me and your dad is for the grown–ups to deal with. If you ever want to see me, you can always come find me. We’ll be just like before, all right?”
Teri stared at Athena, not blinking.

“You’re lying. You’ll have your own kid someday, and they won’t like me. They won’t let me visit you. So it’s better if we just stop seeing each other now.
“You probably couldn’t let go of your own child. That’s why you broke up with Dad.”
Teri had seen Athena leave with Dion the other day, and with everything going on with Zaden, she thought she’d figured out what was happening.
She began to cry. “Athena, I’ll forget you. Just go.”
When Teri started to cry, Athena’s heart ached for her.
But she couldn’t explain everything to her.
Athena wondered if her own daughter would like Teri.
But right now, she hadn’t even met her own child, so she didn’t know what she looked like or what kind of person she was.
And of course, she didn’t know if her daughter would like Teri.
The tension was thick when Zaden walked in. He crouched down beside Teri and said, “Teri, don’t be upset. You’ve been wanting to see Athena, so I brought her here for you. Don’t you want to say goodbye properly?”
Teri’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at Athena.
Her attitude softened, and she nodded. “I do!”
“Athena, will you stay with me tonight? I won’t bother you again after this. I’ll be good.”
Athena couldn’t say no.
She nodded. “All right. I will stay with you for three days!”
Then she looked up at Zaden and asked, “Zaden, can Teri come home with me for a few days?”
Zaden nodded. “Yes.”
Athena scooped Teri up with a smile. “Then let’s spend the next three days together. You’ll stay with me the whole time.”
The moment Teri heard that, all her gloom seemed to lift. A little smile appeared on her face.
She hugged Athena tightly around the neck.
