Chapter 235 A Fake
Lewis made sure to stress the words “my wife.”
Zaden let the words sink in, then suddenly smiled.
His deep gaze shifted toward Athena meaningfully. “I think she should be the one thanking herself. Don’t you agree, Mrs. Belmont?”
Her face went pale.
The mocking tone in Zaden’s voice hit her, and something suddenly clicked in her mind.
She and Zaden were never officially divorced!
Back when she wanted to divorce him, something always got in the way. Then Zaden confessed his feelings, and they just sort of ended up back together.
The divorce had never been through.
Which meant-she was still Zaden’s wife, not Lewis’!
No matter how much Lewis tried to act proud in front of Zaden, it didn’t change the truth.
No wonder Zaden didn’t react to his little show. To him, Lewis was just a clown, not even worth
noticing.
For a second, Athena actually found the situation funny.
Lewis seemed to remember something and sneered. “By the way, there’s a great show coming up. Don’t leave too early, Mr. Storm.”
Zaden smirked. “A great show? I’ll look forward to it.”
Lewis didn’t stay any longer. He grabbed Athena and walked away.
Once Zaden was out of sight, Athena finally relaxed. For some reason, being around him always made her nervous.
“Athena, what’s on your mind? Still thinking about Zaden?” Lewis’ cold voice snapped her back
She replied flatly, “I was thinking about my daughter.”
“Hah, you better be thinking about her. I know you still have feelings for Zaden, but you must forget about him. From now on, it’s just us. We’ll go back to how things were.”
Lewis chuckled. “Soon, it’ll be the four of us-you, me, Dion, and our daughter. We’ll be one happy family again.”
Athena almost laughed at how ironic that sounded.
Dion was Nina’s son. Sure, Athena had raised him, but there was no blood between them. After everything that had happened, how could Lewis possibly think she’d accept Dion without holding any grudges?
For Nina’s sake, he’d nearly caused Athena’s daughter’s death.
He made her and her daughter miss out on so many years. Even if he found her daughter now, it could never make up for what they’d lost.
So, his so-called happy family dream? It was nothing but a joke.
In another corner, Zaden picked up a call from Harriet.
“Zaden, did you see Athena?” she asked.
“Yeah, I saw her.”
“Is she with Lewis?”
Zaden’s eyes scanned the crowd until they found Athena. “Yeah.”
“See? I told you. She’s only staying with Lewis because of her daughter. The kid she had years ago-Lewis is using her as leverage. He’s threatening her. That’s why she’s listening to him.”
His expression darkened, a cold edge flashing in his
eyes.
Harriet went on, “If I hadn’t dug up that info from Kit, we’d still be clueless. Athena would be fighting this all alone.
“Ugh… why does she always try to do everything by herself? Why won’t she ever ask for help? Does she even see me as her best friend anymore?
“If Lewis keeps using this against her, Athena’s never going to get free from him. What are we supposed to do now?”
Just then, Zaden noticed another call coming through.
