Chapter 234 Thank You for Taking Care of My Wife
“They don’t look like a couple who just broke up. Honestly, they seem more attached than ever.”
Athena could vaguely hear people mentioning her name.
She was fully prepared for what would happen if she showed up with Lewis. Soon, he would publicly announce that they were back together.
Maybe it would be a real bombshell to everyone here.
With a smug smile on his face, Lewis seemed thrilled with all the attention.
He leaned down and whispered in Athena’s ear, “Athena, look, everyone’s watching us. Come on, give them a smile. Someone might snap a photo. If you get caught looking bad, you’ll be upset.”
Athena nearly rolled her
eyes.
She couldn’t have cared less. It wasn’t like she wanted to reconcile with Lewis in the first place.
The crowd quickly recognized Lewis. Clearly, they were curious about what was going on with him and Athena.
After a while, someone finally worked up the nerve to approach and greet Lewis, clearly eager to dig for details about him and Athena.
“Mr. Belmont, it’s been ages! Didn’t expect to see you at the gala tonight.”
Lewis gave a small, polite smile. “Mr. Landon, it’s been a while.”
After exchanging some pleasantries, the man steered the conversation to Athena. “Mr. Belmont, and this is… ?”
Lewis looked even more pleased with himself as he introduced, “This is my wife, Athena.”
“Oh, so you’re Mrs. Belmont.” The man nodded in realization. Seeing Lewis in such a good mood, he asked boldly, “There were rumors about you and Mrs. Belmont having a falling out not long ago. Are you two … back together now?”
“It’s normal for couples to fight sometimes, but we’re good now.” Lewis glanced at Athena, his eyes gentle. “Am I right, Mr. Landon?”
The man quickly agreed. “Yes, yes.”
All the nearby guests who’d been eavesdropping quickly put the pieces together.
So, Lewis and Athena had a fight, but now they were back together. The rumors about Athena and Zaden were nothing.
Athena had just attended the camp with Zaden as his partner.
There was nothing more between them.
At least, that was how it looked on the surface. Whether or not Athena and Zaden had something private going on, no one could say, and Lewis clearly wasn’t bothered.
As onlookers, all they could do was watch the drama unfold.
Just as the room was buzzing with gossip, someone arrived. The hall fell silent for a second, and everyone’s eyes turned to the entrance. Athena and Lewis looked over, too, and they saw a tall figure coming in.
Zaden had arrived.
When Athena saw Zaden, she tensed up.
She’d known he’d be here, but she still felt strangely nervous about what he’d think about her attending the gala with Lewis. But she had already told Zaden she would reconcile with Lewis. Even if he saw this, it shouldn’t matter.
Athena did her best to steady herself and act calm.
Lewis looked even more excited after spotting Zaden. He let go of Athena’s arm and slipped his hand around her waist, holding her close.
Athena frowned and tried to pull away.
But Lewis leaned in and muttered, “Don’t you want to see your daughter?”
At the mention of her daughter, Athena instantly lost all her fight. She stopped struggling.
Seeing that, Lewis’s smile grew wider.
He led Athena toward Zaden. Athena felt rigid, unable to do anything except let Lewis guide her toward him.
“Mr. Storm, what a coincidence. Didn’t expect to see you here.”
Zaden glanced at Lewis, his face expressionless. He ignored Athena, as if she were nothing but a
stranger.
