From Betrayal to Brilliance Her Rise to a New Life novel Chapter 239

Chapter 239 You’re so Heartless

Athena wasn’t about to tell Zaden the truth. She just said calmly. “This is my own business. You don’t have to worry about it.”

Zaden’s eyes narrowed, a hint of coldness flashing in them.

“So what is it then? Are you still stuck on those eight years with Lewis, or does he have some leverage over you?”

She hesitated, but she still said nothing.

He continued, “That’s Lewis’ house. Nina came there and had someone take a little girl away. She looked about the same age as Teri.”

Athena’s eyes went wide.

Could that have been her daughter?

She grabbed Zaden’s hand, her voice shaking. “Where did Nina take her? That’s my daughter!”

Zaden steadied her and spoke gently, “Calm down. I already sent someone to follow them.”

Hearing that, Athena finally started to breathe normally again.

She inhaled deeply a few times, trying to settle her nerves. When she realized how panicked she’d been, she felt a little embarrassed.

“Sorry, I kinda lost it. It’s just…”

Zaden nodded, his tone soft. “It’s fine. Any mother would react that way. Don’t be too hard on yourself.”

Athena breathed a sigh of relief. He was still as gentle as she remembered.

Just then, she noticed the villa across the street was completely dark.

No one seemed to be coming out.

“Guess Lewis isn’t coming out,” she muttered. “Is he seriously ditching me?”

If Zaden hadn’t dragged her away earlier, she’d still be sitting there waiting like a fool.

Thinking about it, Athena cursed Lewis inwardly.

If only her daughter weren’t in his hands …

She forced down her anger and took another breath.

Zaden’s voice turned cold. “You’re still hoping he’ll come back?”

She shot back, “Of course not!”

Finished

“Lewis isn’t coming back tonight. He’s with Nina.” As soon as Zaden finished speaking, Athena’s phone buzzed. A message from Lewis popped up. He claimed something urgent came up, said he wouldn’t be back, and that his assistant would drive her home.

She didn’t reply.

Instead, she smirked mockingly. His assistant wouldn’t be able to find her.

When she finally put her phone down, she saw Zaden looking at it too. He’d clearly read the message. Feeling uneasy, she said, “He’s not coming back, so I might as well go. If you hear anything about that little girl, please let me know right away.”

Zaden looked at her quietly. She was sincere and polite, just like when they’d first met.

His voice dropped. “Athena.”

She braced herself, guessing what was coming.

Still, she forced herself to stay calm. “Yeah?”

Zaden said, “You’re so heartless.”

Athena thought he’d bring up their past. Instead, he just called her heartless. She was so caught off guard that she almost choked on air.

She finally caught her breath and stammered, “I … I … ”

Zaden sighed, eyes fixed on her. “I know you don’t care about me anymore. When you said you wanted to get back together, it was just to appease me.”

Athena went quiet, surprised he’d figured it out.

But it didn’t matter now.

Right now, none of that mattered. Until she found her daughter, she couldn’t think about love or relationships.
