Athena stared coldly at the mother and son before her.“I’m here. Let’s sign the papers,” she said directly, without wasting a single word.

The maid served her a cup of tea. Bridget set down her teacup, looked at Athena, and said calmly, “Are you sure about this? You really want to divorce Lewis?”

“Yes.” Athena’s tone was firm and calm.

Her expression was firm and determined; nothing could stop her now.

Bridget sighed slowly. “When you first married Lewis, I wasn’t happy about it. I did a lot of things to keep you two apart, but you didn’t leave him. It’s been years. I’ve come to accept you, but you want to divorce; I think it’s a shame.”

Athena lowered her eyes.

The love she once believed in now felt like a dream she had been fooled into, a foolish fantasy from a younger, more naïve version of herself.

Athena knew exactly what Bridget was doing. She was trying to use old memories to stir guilt or hesitation. Too bad. That trick wouldn’t work. They were bound to get a divorce.

“Enough,” Athena snapped coldly. “If you’re not signing the agreement, I’m leaving.”

She rose to her feet, but the moment she did, the room spun violently. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and before she could steady herself, she collapsed back onto the couch, weak and disoriented.

Bridget slowly picked up her teacup again. Her eyes were cold, her lips curling into a smug smile.

She hadn’t dragged the conversation out to appeal to Athena’s emotions. Bridget was stalling, waiting for the drug to kick in.

What the maid had sprayed earlier wasn’t disinfectant at all.

It was a special kind of seductive mist to make Athena lost in her desire.

Bridget watched Athena press a trembling hand to her forehead and gave a satisfied smirk. “Lewis,” she said smoothly, “it looks like Athena isn’t feeling well. Help her to the room.”

Then she added, “And make sure she drinks the tea.”

Lewis understood the plan. He also knew that the tea had a purpose. He picked up

Athena slumped against the couch. Her head spinning, her breath heavy. Her whole body felt crushed under invisible weight. She sensed Lewis lifting her up and tried to push him away, but she was too weak.

The cold liquid slid into her mouth. Athena tried to resist, to spit it out.

But when she opened her mouth, she ended up swallowing most of it instead.

“Cough! Cough! What did you make me drink?” She gasped, her voice trembling.

Bridget’s eyes flashed with scorn and mockery as she stared at Athena. “I told you before. If you had just given Lewis another child, things wouldn’t have come to this,” she said coldly. “But since you refuse to listen, I have no choice but to take matters into my own hands.”

She gave a calm, chilling smile. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing harmful. Just a fertility medicine. It won’t hurt you in

any way.”

Athena’s heart clenched tight at her words.

So Bridget hadn’t brought her here to sign the divorce papers; this witch brought her here to force her into having Lewis’s child!

She was sick of Lewis–so sick she could hardly stand to look at him. All she wanted was to get away. Having his child was the last thing she’d ever want.

The thought made her heart sink. If Bridget’s plan worked and she ended up pregnant with Lewis’s baby, it would be the worst kind of humiliation.

But she was too weak to fight back.

Lewis had already lifted her into his arms and was carrying her upstairs.

Bridget watched them go, then stood and turned to the maids. “Alright,” she said coldly, “everyone out. Don’t interrupt Lewis.”

“Athena, don’t blame me for this,” Lewis said, setting her down on the bed. “I already asked Dion to talk to you a few times, but you refused to come home. You left me no choice.”

Athena turned her head with effort, her gaze landing on him.

His fingers were on his shirt buttons, unfastening them one by one.
