“You’re Lewis’s legal wife,” Harriet said sharply. “Even if he takes that woman to the party, she’s still nothing but a side chick. What’s there for her to be proud of?”
Athena lowered her eyes, her expression thoughtful.
After a moment, she said calmly, “No. I think Nina’s trying to provoke me. Lewis won’t bring
her to such an event.”
She’d been with Lewis for eight years. If there was one thing she knew, it was his personality.
The family had a reputation to protect. Lewis cared too much about appearances to let himself become gossip material.
That was also why Bridget never allowed Nina into their home, because Nina came from a lowly background.
She was a housekeeper’s daughter. In high society, marrying a servant’s daughter was a joke waiting to happen.
Harriet frowned, still confused.
“If Lewis isn’t taking her, then why did Nina call to brag? Does she know you wouldn’t show up, so she called to make you angry?”
Athena gave a cold laugh. “She’s definitely trying to bait me. She wants me to show up at the birthday party. After being the other woman for so many years, she probably can’t wait to make
a move.”
Harriet’s eyes lit up. She grew excited and hurriedly said, “Then we have to go! I wouldn’t miss this show for the world!”
“Let’s go.
Harriet thought of something; she suddenly grabbed Athena’s arm, stopping her. “Because of this, you need to show up like a queen. You’re the real wife here. How could you let that homewrecker win? You need to crush her. Come on, I’m taking you to glam up.”
Athena couldn’t resist Harriet’s determination and finally agreed to go with her to the styling studio.
The two walked outside. A black luxury car was already waiting by the curb.
Its tinted windows were dark as night. Through the glass, they could just make out a shadowy figure inside–quiet, composed, and mysterious.

Athena opened the back door and got in. Harriet followed right after.
When Harriet looked toward the driver’s seat, her eyes widened slightly. The man was dressed completely in black, a pair of sunglasses covering his eyes. One hand rested lazily on the steering wheel, his posture casual yet powerful.
It’s him!
The heir of the Rices.
Before today, Harriet hadn’t thought much of him. But now that she knew who he was, she couldn’t help but feel something shift inside her.
Still, what truly piqued her curiosity was this–how on earth did Athena know him?
Jerome’s mansion sat halfway up the hill.
That place was massive. Before sunset, luxury cars were already pulling in one after another. The place glittered with celebrities and high–society elites. It looked more like a red carpet event compared to a birthday party.
Jerome was turning 70. The celebration was extravagant and full of life.
Inside the grand ballroom, Lewis stood beside Bridget in a perfectly tailored suit. His expression was dark, his mood clearly foul.
For days, he had been searching for Athena, but she had completely vanished.
Deep down, he knew it was Zaden who had taken her away.
The thought made him want to vomit blood.
Bridget gave him a sharp glance. She grumbled, “Wipe that look off your face. If your grandfather sees you sulking, he’ll be upset.”
She turned toward the center of the ballroom.
The area around Jerome, the birthday star, was buzzing with guests showering him with flattering words.
He looked delighted, especially with his eldest son, Alaric Belmont, and his family surrounding him. They were cracking jokes that kept Jerome laughing nonstop.
Bridget frowned slightly. Even though they were family, she couldn’t help but compare.
