Chapter 77 Breaking the Chains
For a long moment, Lewis just stared at Athena.
“Athena, it was you who saved me?”
His voice was hoarse, heavy with pain, like he was drowning in doubt.
Everything he thought he knew started to shake.

Athena’s eyes stayed cold. Her words cut sharp. “If I could turn back time, I’d wish I never saved you.”
Lewis’s chest tightened hard.
Could it really have been Athena?
If it was her, then what did all those years of treating Nina as his savior even mean?
His throat felt stuffed with cotton, leaving him choked and miserable.
“I won’t divorce you!” Lewis shot to his feet. He tried to step toward Athena, to pull her into his arms, but someone blocked him.
The room spun into chaos.
“Mr. Belmont, calm down!”
Lewis stopped moving forward, but his voice rang firm. “I love my wife. Athena will always be Mrs. Belmont. I will never divorce her!”
His eyes locked onto Athena’s, unyielding, like he was swearing an oath.
Lewis’s eyes burned red, his face filled with agitation.
The mediator, seeing that he refused divorce, assumed her job was done. She smiled at Athena and asked, “Ms. Hall, it seems the misunderstandings between you and Mr. Belmont have been cleared up. Have you changed your mind about ending the marriage?”
Athena’s brow furrowed.
Of course she hadn’t!
What on earth was Harriet doing? Hadn’t she promised to help with the divorce?
Instead, she had only made Lewis more determined to hold on.

Athena’s temples throbbed with frustration.
This marriage might not end after all.
She drew a deep breath, ready to speak. But Harriet smiled and said first. “I want to talk to Lewis alone. Please give us the room.”
Athena thought it was strange, but in the end, she trusted Harriet.
The conference room fell quiet, leaving only Harriet and Lewis inside.
Lewis’s gaze was sharp and heavy. His voice was ice. “I won’t divorce Athena.”
He knew Harriet had come to persuade him to divorce, but he had never wanted that. Now that he realized it was Athena who had saved him back then, he was even less willing to let her go.
This time, he had truly been in the wrong.
But mistakes could be fixed. He would make it up to Athena and start over with her.
Harriet’s lips curved in a faint smile, as if she hadn’t heard him at all.
“Lewis, do you think your one–sided insistence means anything?” Her tone was calm, almost gentle. “All you’re doing is torturing Athena. From the first day you hurt her, there was no turning back.
“I heard you even used her daughter to threaten her.”
Her voice sharpened. “She risked everything to save you, and you pushed her further think threatening her will bring her back? It only makes her hate you more.”

Lewis’s breathing grew shallow. His face twisted with pain.
Regret pressed down on him like a weight he couldn’t carry.
He hadn’t meant to hurt Athena. He just wanted her back. He just didn’t want a divorce.
Harriet studied him, then went on softly. “Do you remember how famous Athena was? A gifted doctor, my mother Kate’s star student.
“She was brilliant. But saving you ruined her hand. Marrying you destroyed her career. She gave you everything.
“And what did you give her in return?
“Even after all this, she never once hurt you. The scandal at the Belmont family banquet? That
