Zaden reached out and steadied Athena by the shoulder. Then, he glanced over her shoulder and saw Dexter, his face covered in blood.
He frowned, Harriet’s words echoing in his mind.
“What happened?”
Athena heard Zaden’s deep, magnetic voice and finally snapped out of her daze.
She didn’t know why, but a sense of calm slowly settled inside her. It felt like with him here, there was nothing she couldn’t get through.
“Mr… Mr. Storm!” Dexter stared at Zaden, completely stunned.
Zaden hadn’t visited Mercy Memorial Hospital much lately, and he never bothered with minor matters like this. Dexter never imagined he’d run into him today.
If Zaden found out that he’d abused his position and done things that would damage the hospital’s reputation, he’d be done for …
The thought made Dexter tense up instantly. He decided to take the initiative. “Mr. Storm, she’s here to interview for a doctor’s position today. I discovered her résumé is fake and decided to reject her. But unexpectedly, she actually tried to seduce me to get the job!”
Dexter let out a cold snort and put on a self–righteous look. “If I weren’t so strong–willed, she would have succeeded!”
“After I refused her bribe, she got angry and attacked me. I didn’t hit back since she’s a woman, but she just kept pushing her luck…”
The more Dexter talked, the more wronged he looked.
He described everything in such detail, as if Athena had actually done those things. Athena couldn’t help but laugh at Dexter’s words.
Sometimes, I really do admire people who can lie without breaking a sweat.
Zaden’s frown deepened.
Dexter saw that and grew even more smug. He shot Athena a provocative look. He knew she might have her sights on Zaden, but she didn’t have any real connection to him.

On the other hand, he was the director of this hospital.
So, it was clear who Zaden would back.

Athena slowly realized that this hospital had something to do with Zaden. After all, Kate herself had a connection to Zaden. With family interests at play, Zaden would naturally have a stake in this hospital.
She hesitated, wanting to explain herself.
But worry crept in–What if Zaden only listens to Dexter? What if he’s just like Dexter?
As Athena kept wrestling with her thoughts, Zaden’s gaze landed on her. He watched her quietly, a clear look of concern in his eyes.
After a moment, his deep voice sounded. “Are you hurt?”
“Uh… No, I’m not.”
Athena barely processed what was happening. She just answered him by instinct.
Once Zaden confirmed she was okay, he finally looked over at Dexter, his tone icy and chilling. “How many times have you used your position for things like this?”
“Mr… Mr. Storm, what are you talking about?” Dexter’s voice trembled.
Sweat poured down his back, and he grew more anxious by the second.
Zaden’s meaning was clear enough–he was going to back Athena.
“Mercy Memorial Hospital is a wholly owned subsidiary of Storm Group. You’re just an employee of the Storms, but you act like you own the hospital, and everyone here has to bow to you?”
Zaden’s question wasn’t even harsh, but his steady tone had a calm, crushing pressure that made Dexter feel like the world was ending.
Sweat beaded across Dexter’s forehead. “Mr. Storm, I… I didn’t… ”
Dexter tried to keep arguing, but Zaden wasn’t interested in listening. He turned his head slightly and addressed Tommy behind him. “Remove Mr. Vale from his position and have him pack up and leave right now.”
That was as good as a death sentence for Dexter’s career.
He panicked instantly. The director’s job at Mercy Memorial Hospital was cushy, prestigious, and paid extremely well. If he lost his position, where else could he go?
