Chapter 102

Alicia knew non residents couldn’t get into Linen Hay Residences, an she figured she’d go downstairs herexif to pick up the delivery and maybe catch her breath Still, she just couldn’t wrap her head around why Charles had given her that look

Could it be that he’s found out I’m not actually his savior?she wondered

But before she’ll even finished changing her shoes, Charles said, Ho need to go down. There’s a robot downstairsit’ll send it up

Alicia was stunned and thought in disbelief, Wait, there’s really a robot? Geez, how did I miss this?

Back when I first moved in, Mr. Yates had already sent me a whole pile of stuff, but there I was, clueless as ever, dragging that giant box upstairs all by myselfpanting like I was in the middle of a workout. So embarrassing

The stuff had just been left at reception. Bet that receptionist thought I was trying to prove how tough I am or something!

Charles had already called the security booth.

Moments later, the elevator doors slid open, and Alicia watched as an adorable little robot wheeled into view, It stopped right in front of her and, in a cheerful voice, announced, Dear resident, your meal has been delivered. Please enter your room number to collect it.

Alicia typed in her room number, took the food, and the robot chirped, Enjoy your day!

Then the robot made its way back downstairs.

Alicia carried the food inside when Charles stood up from the couch.

Alicia hurried to wash her hands, pulled the food out of the bag, and, wanting to save herself from dirty dishes, simply popped open the Noble Leaf Bistro containers and set them out on the table as they were.

Charles washed his hands as well. When he saw her eating straight from the takeout boxes, he went into the kitchen, grabbed some plates, and started arranging the food nicely on them.

Alicia watched him in silence. She wanted to tell him that using plates would just mean more to wash later, wasting precious timebut she held it in, biting her tongue.

It was getting late already. She’d originally planned to finish her sketch by ten, but with any more delays, it would probably be close to eleven or even midnight before she got back to drawing.

But in the end, she just couldn’t bring herself to say it, so she just ate in silence.

Alicia dug into her food, eager to finish up and get back to her sketch, but Charles was slow and steady, constantly helping her with her food.

Seeing that, Alicia realized there was no point rushing if she’s the only one in a hurry.

Chapter 102

How am I supposed to draw when my model’s not even here? she grumbled inwardly.

#56 nocher

Honestly, if it were anyone else, Alicia could easily sketch them from memory. But with Charles, her skills just didn’t cut ithe was in a league of his own when it came to being a tough subject.

He was by far the hardest model she’d ever worked with. Sure, Charles was goodlooking, but the whole vibe he gave off was impossible to nail down.

If she only had to get the physical resemblance right, that would be simple enough. But as an artist, she needed to capture both his look and his spiritthat’s what really mattered.

That was what made things so tricky.

She had to watch Charles closely the whole time, fiddling with the shadows every now and then, just to get everything just right.

Charles watched Alicia go from wolfing down her food in a hurry to slowing down as she ate, and he couldn’t help but smile, a small curl at the corners of his lips.

Once they finished eating, Charles got up and started washing the dishes.

Alicia wanted to help, but he waved her off. I was the one who put the food on plates, so I’ll clean up. I just don’t like eating from restaurant containers at home.

Alicia almost said that the Noble Leaf Bistro containers were actually pretty nice and not much different from regular dishes, but she kept quiet. It’s his house, his rules, she thought. No point in butting in.

Go take a break for a bit, Charles said with a low chuckle. You’ve got to get back to your drawing soon, and all I have to do is lie around. If I don’t move a little, I’ll turn into a couch potato.

Alicia paused for a second, then laughed. Mr. Yates is actually pretty funny, she thought.

She stepped out of the kitchen and took a couple of laps around the rooftop garden, watering the plants she’d bought earlier. When she came back inside, Charles had already finished tidying up the kitchen.

She thought she could finally get back to her drawing, but Charles surprised her by brewing her a cup of fruit tea to help with digestion.

Alicia drank the tea quietly. When she glanced at the clock, she couldn’t believe it was already 7:30.

How did dinner take so long? she wondered.

Charles settled back into his previous pose, and Alicia took a deep breath, calming herself before picking up her pencil. Before starting, she held it up in front of her eye, closing one eye and keeping the other open, carefully sizing him up for her sketch.

It looked just like she was winking at him.

Charles’s lips curled into a smile, and it felt like a feather had just brushed against his heart.

Once Alicia started drawing, her focus was intenseshe was totally lost in her art. The apartment was filled

with nothing but the gentle sound of their breathing and the soft scratch of her pencil moving across the

paper.

Bit by bit, she mapped out the outline, then began refining every tiny detail, stroke after stroke. Time flowed by unnoticed, and she was completely oblivious to everything else.

Charles watched her quietly from his spot, almost surprised by how at peace he felt. It was like a rare moment of quiet bliss, the kind that made him wish this evening could last forever.

Managing a massive company solo meant he rarely got a moment’s peacehis nerves were stretched thin day in and day out. But now that he’d finally let himself relax, drowsiness crept in like a gentle wave.

Slowly, he closed his eyes and, without any defense up, let himself slip into sleep.

Finally, Alicia finished sketching out the outline and was just about to refine the details when she glanced up- only to find Charles fast asleep.

She tiptoed over and gently called, Mr. Yates?

He didn’t stir, so she tried again, a little louder. Mr. Yates?

Still nothing. Alicia just stood there quietly, taking in the scene. Bathed in the warm, dreamy glow of the lights, his face looked more dazzling than moonlight on crystalclear water, more elegant than evening mist woven into the sunset.
