“Alright,” Edward agreed right away. Then, with a mix of exasperation and affection, he poked Alicia on the forehead. “You’re such a fool. Why did you draw so many paintings for other people? You’re so clueless. I’d better keep you close and keep an eye on you.”

Alicia instantly nodded, admitting she was a fool. “I have no idea what was going through my head back then, but I swear, I won’t be that stupid again.”

“So, what are you planning to do next?” Edward asked.

Alicia replied calmly, “Honestly, I was going to expose her that day, but she faked another faint.”

Edward paused to think and said, “I have an idea.”

Alicia glanced up at him, and he smiled, “I’ll say I haven’t decided which of you to take on as my student yet. I’ll ask you both to submit another painting. Or maybe even have you paint in front of me. That way, she won’t have room to fake it anymore.”

Alicia considered for a moment and said, “Painting right in front of you probably won’t work. She’ll just pretend to be sick or pass out again. Let’s just both submit another painting.”

“This time, I’ll use Richard as part of my plan, Alicia thought, her gaze flickering and her lashes lowering a touch. ‘If I play this right, I can force the Lawrence family into a corner.

“Alright. Once you’ve both handed in your paintings. I’ll get some reporters involved. Are you sure you can expose her? Is she really that bad at it?” Edward asked worriedly.

Alicia replied, “I’m sure.”

Edward nodded, satisfied. “Good. We’ll do it your way.”

After they wrapped things up, Edward smiled warmly at Alicia. “Alicia, how about you stay and have dinner with me tonight?”

“Absolutely!” Alicia flashed him a bright smile. “I’ll handle the cooking this time. I’m a good cook now.”

“Sounds good. I’ll play assistant chef,” Edward chuckled.

Alicia gave a nod, and together they headed into the kitchen. They poked around in the fridge and pulled out a piece of beef, half a chicken, a big cauliflower, and two plump tomatoes.

After thinking for a bit, Alicia said, “Richard, I’m thinking we should make some salad today. You always made it for me and Charlie when we were little, remember?”

“Okay.” Edward nodded. Then he suddenly remembered something and asked, “Are you still in touch with Charlie?”

Alicia shook her head. “No, it’s like he just vanished into thin air.”

Seeing the sadness in Alicia’s eyes, Edward gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. “If fate wants you two to meet again, it’ll happen. Just look at us. We found each other, didn’t we?”

Alicia smiled and nodded.

So they got to work cooking together. Edward pulled up a little stool and sat out in the yard, picking through the veggies. Alicia took the ones he’d prepped and brought them inside to wash.

They cooked together just like when Alicia was a kid.

Only now, their roles had flipped. Alicia was in charge of the kitchen as the head chef, and Edward was her right–hand man.

Halfway through, Alicia asked, “Grandpa, did we forget the salad sauce?”

Edward slapped his forehead. “Oh man, I totally spaced on that. Getting old means I always forget something at the store. What else do we need? I’ll run to the convenience store.”

Alicia glanced around and said, “Could you grab a bottle of salad sauce and a bottle of chili sauce too?”

“Alright, I’m off,” Edward said, grabbing his phone and heading out.

Alicia glanced around the kitchen, already plotting her next move. She decided to roast the chicken to go with the chili sauce. She couldn’t handle spicy food herself these days, but she remembered how much Edward loved it.

Since roast chicken didn’t need any sauce, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work on the chicken.

Alicia was in the middle of prepping the chicken when there was a sudden knock on the door.

She paused, puzzled for a second. ‘Did Richard forget his keys?‘ she wondered.

Still holding her spatula, she dashed over to answer it.

As soon as she pulled open the iron gate, she was greeted by Maria, Aaron, and Tiffany, standing right outside.

All three were dressed to the nines, their arms loaded with high–end health products.

Alicia clocked it instantly. These three were clearly here to shower Edward with gifts.

Before Alicia could even get a word in, Maria snapped, her voice as sharp as ever, “What are you even doing

here?”

“Why don’t you take a guess?” Alicia said, her grin unbothered.

Maria’s eyes swept over Alicia in her apron, spatula still in hand, and let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Are you working as a domestic helper now? Is this what you’ve come to? Weren’t you all tough and stubborn back then, insisting on leaving the Lawrence family? Well, now you’re just a domestic helper.”

Aaron clearly wasn’t having any of Maria’s attitude. He grabbed Maria’s arm and cut her off mid–sentence.

“Mom…”

Maria glanced at Aaron, and he shook his head, signaling her to drop it.

She bit back her words. Hugh had sent Aaron along today, telling them to follow his lead.

Aaron had been by his side for years and knew how to handle these situations better. For Tiffany’s sake, Maria was supposed to do whatever Aaron said.

With Aaron shutting her down, Maria could only purse her lips and stay silent, though she kept giving Alicia those looks.

Aaron walked over to Alicia, sighed, and said, “Alicia, can’t you just let Tiffany win this time? Why keep fighting her?”

Alicia smirked, eyes lowered. “And why should I?”

“She’s your sister,” Aaron pointed out.

“Sorry, I don’t have a sister like that,” Alicia said sweetly. “And even if I did, why should I always let her win? We both only live once, so why am I always the one who has to be the nice guy?”

As soon as she said that, she thought, ‘Actually… this is my second life, but I am still not interested in letting her have her way.’

Aaron shook his head with a taunting smile. “Do you really think you can beat Tiffany? Do you think just cooking a few meals for Mr. West is enough for him to make you his student? Come on. It’s not that easy.”
