Her Revenge From Shadow to Sunlight novel Chapter 114

Edward’s voice was trembling with excitement on the other end of the line. Alicia, is that really you?

Tears filled Alicia’s eyes. Richard, it’s me. It’s really me.

How have you been all these years?Edward asked.

I’ve beenOkay, I guess. And you? Why are you Mr. West now?Alicia blurted out all the questions that had been on her mind.

It’s a long story. Let’s talk when we meet,Edward said.

ButAlicia said awkwardly, I’m in the middle of a mess right now, and I’m worried it might drag you into my troubles.

Edward chuckled, It’s fine. Don’t worry. Just come over. Nothing you do could affect me. I’ve got a little place rented near your campus. I’ll text you the address soon.

Alicia smiled softly, Okay.”

The next day, Alicia headed to the address that Edward had sent over.

Standing at the entrance to the yard, Alicia felt like she’d stepped back into her childhood. The place was just like the old home she used to share with Richard, cozy and brimming with warmth.

She raised her hand and knocked gently on the door.

Almost immediately, the door swung open. There stood Edward.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he smiled warmly at Alicia. Alicia,” he said.

Richard,” Alicia called out, her voice soft.

Come in. Come in,Edward said, stepping aside to let her in.

After closing the door, he gently pulled Alicia closer. Let me have a good look at you.

Alicia stood quietly, letting Edward look her over while she gazed back at him, her heart heavy with nostalgia.

Edward nodded with a warm smile. You’ve really grown up, Alicia. You’re even lovelier than before.

Alicia glanced at the silver in Edward’s hair and felt a pang of guilt. I’m so sorry. I made you worry. Did you spend all these years looking for me?

From his expression when he’d seen Tiffany’s painting that day, she knew that he must have been searching

for her ever since.

Edward chuckled softly, Of course, I did. But I couldn’t search every waking moment. It’s been twelve years, Alicia. You don’t blame me, do you?

Edward believed Alicia was kidnapped and sold. He felt guilty and devastated, even hopeless for a while.

Of course not, Alicia said, giving him a gentle but reassuring, hug. This was never your fault. Someone took me away on purpose. There was no way you could have found me, so please don’t blame yourself

Edward’s brows knit together in concern. Was it kidnappers? How did you manage to get free?

He hesitated, almost afraid to hear something terrible.

Alicia shook her head. No, it wasn’t kidnappers. It was the Lawrence family. Their youngest daughter had gone missing and Mrs. Lawrence couldn’t let go. I was about the same age as their girl, so they just brought me to their home by force.

Worried I’d escape, they kept me locked up for days and then told me they wanted to adopt me, to make me one of their own. It took time, but eventually I accepted it and that’s when I was finally allowed out. I tried looking for you right after, but you were already gone.

She looked up at Edward, her voice anxious. Was it the Lawrence family who made you leave?”

Edward let out a sigh of relief and shook his head. No, it wasn’t them. My family found me.”

Alicia paused, stunned for a moment. I always thought Richard had no one left in the world. That’s why he’d been forced to scavenge and live rough. I never imagined he still had family out there, she thought to herself.

She asked, You always had me call you Richard, so I thought your full name was Richard Shaw. How come you’re known as Mr. West now?

She couldn’t help but blurt out all the questions tumbling around in her head.

Edward went quiet for a long moment, sorrow flickering in his eyes. Shaw is actually my wife’s last name.

My wife was a painter too. She devoted herself to oil painting, while I was all about sketching and watercolors. Our different styles often led to clashes. One day, we got into a heated argument and I left the

house in a huff.

That night, she suffered a heart attack and passed away. I’ve regretted that fight ever since. Afterward, I fell into a dark place, just drinking to numb the pain. Eventually, I couldn’t stand myself anymore and ran away. I couldn’t bear my own reflection, so I took on her last name instead

Edward let out a bitter chuckle. She must’ve been so disappointed in me.”

Alicia comforted him gently. Richard, every couple fights sometimes. No one can predict tragedy or illness. I truly believe she wouldn’t blame you for any of it. She’d want you to live the best life you can.

He nodded, his voice soft. Yes. She always wanted me to live on. When I lost you, it felt like nothing mattered anymore. Later, my children found me and showed me her diary. Her greatest wish was for oil painting to be known around the world. It was the dream she never got to finish.

I spent some time recovering back home, and when I finally faced the world again, I started learning to paint in her style. But no matter what, I could never match her talent. In the early days, people mocked me, scoffed at my effortsbut I stuck with it, and that’s how I got where I am now.

Alicia looked at him, feeling a pang in her heart. Richard, you’ve been through a lot.

Edward shook his head. It’s fine. Honestly, I’m really happy these days. I’ve finally discovered just how amazing oil painting can be, and now I’m really in love with it.”

Alicia smiled, genuinely happy for him.

When he finished telling his story, Edward glanced at Alicia. So, what’s up with Tiffany’s paintings? The first time I saw them, I actually thought they were yours, so I went and chatted with her privately about it.

Alicia paused for a few seconds before filling him in on what had happened between her and the Lawrence family.
