Chapter 123
Hank didn’t bother responding to Fiona. He just grabbed the bowl and headed out to wash it
But then, seeing the food smears in the bowl, he was hit by memories of those days when he and Alicia used to eat on the rooftop together.
She’d once told him back when she was a kid, she had almost nothing to eat. If she managed to get a single meal, she’d scrape every last grain from her lunchbox.
She had it rough, and he’d still teased her about it. What was worse, all those classmates joined in, making her life even harder.
But instead of holding it against him, she’d busted her ass looking for a kidney match for Sasha and even paid the surgery costs herself.
Yet, he couldn’t do a damn thing for her.
The more he thought about it, the worse he felt. In the end, he just crouched by the kitchen sink, clutching his head as the tears streamed down, completely breaking down.
Harvey asked the nurse where Hank was. When he found Hank by the sink, even Harvey felt a wave of emotion. In these two days, Hank looked like he’d been through hell.
Harvey waited nearby for a moment before finally calling, “Hank”
Hank lifted his head to look at Harvey, Harvey took a deep breath and said, “Come with me. There’s someone who wants to talk to you.”
“Who? What do they want?” Hank blurted out, his voice trembling.
“Someone who’s out to get revenge for Alicia. He needs you to spill everything about what happened. He wants to know exactly who hurt her,” Harvey said.
Hank tossed the bowl straight into the sink, his eyes blazing with hatred. “Let’s go.”
Harvey picked up the bowl from the sink and called over a nurse. “Take these two bowls to Room 1702.
“Sure thing, Doctor Johnson,” the nurse said. As she walked off with the bowls, she gave Hank a sidelong glance. He really seems different now. His sister’s been here for a while, so I’ve seen him often, but today, he suddenly looks older. That innocent look is gone and now there’s just sadness in his eyes, the nurse thought.
Still, she kept silent and carried the bowls away.
Harvey took Hank to Lavender Court.
When they arrived, Charles still hadn’t shown up.
They waited at the entrance for ten minutes before Charles finally arrived.

While they waited, Hank gritted his teeth, eyes dark. “Doctor Johnson, if you figure out who did this to Alicia, can you tell me? I need to know.”
Harvey nodded. “Yeah.”
After that, silence fell between them. The tension in the air was so thick that it was almost unbearable.
Charles finally arrived at the entrance, pressing his finger to the lock and slipping out of his coat.
Once the door swung open, he tossed his coat onto the couch and glanced back at Harvey and Hank. “Have a seat.”
They took their seats. Harvey saw just how bloodshot Charles’s eyes were and asked, “When’s the last time you actually got any sleep?”
“That doesn’t matter right now,” Charles cut him off, eyes fixed on Hank. “Tell me. What exactly did Alicia say to you before everything happened? I want every single word. Don’t leave anything out.”
Hank immediately pulled up his chat history with Alicia and handed his phone to Charles.
After reading through it, Charles looked up. “Anything else?”
Hank shook his head. “No.”
Charles nodded and then looked over at Harvey. “What did you learn from the police?”
Harvey spoke quietly, his tone stiff. “The Lawrence family identified the body and handed over Alicia’s DNA sample for comparison. It’s…”
He faltered, sneaking a glance at Charles before managing to get the words out. “It’s a perfect match.”
Charles’s whole vibe turned icy in an instant. On the outside, he seemed calm, but Harvey had known him long enough to recognize the signs. When Charles went quiet like this, it meant his anger had reached the point of no return.
At that moment, his upright posture suddenly collapsed, as if all his strength had drained away. His eyes, always so deep and steady, had just lost all their light.
It was the kind of emptiness where nothing seemed to matter anymore.
Harvey had known Charles for years, and the only other time he’d seen Charles like this was on Rosalie’s memorial day. Ever since Alicia came into his life, Charles had grown more cheerful, his eyes sparkling with a new light. But right now, it felt like all the life had been sucked out of him.
Charles tried to speak, but the words caught in his throat.
It took Charles a long moment before he could finally say, his voice shaking, “I don’t trust the Lawrence family.”
Harvey gently reached for Charles’s unsteady hand, trying to calm him. “Charles, I went to see the body myself. There was a little trinket with her. The same one Alicia always wore.”

Chapter 123
Harvey hated forcing Charles to confront this, but he knew Charles had to face the music.
Charles’s breath came in quick, uneven bursts. “You guys should go I need to be alone.”

Harvey wanted to say something more, concern written all over his face, but Charles just shut his eyes, sounding utterly spent. Just go
Harvey let out a heavy sigh and led Hank out of Lavender Court.
Once they stepped out of Lavender Court, Harvey turned to Hank. “Let me give you a ride back to the hospital.
Hank shook his head. “It’s fine, Doctor Johnson. I can get back by myself. You should stick around for your friend. He looks really out of it.”
Harvey hadn’t expected that. He watched Hank for a second and then nodded. “Alright, take care then. You can catch a cab just outside.”
“I know,” Hank said, turning to leave.
Harvey stood by his car, reaching inside to grab a pack of cigarettes.
He hadn’t smoked in ages, but today, he really needed a smoke.
He pulled out a cigarette, but realized he didn’t have a lighter. After spotting a convenience store nearby, he headed in to pick up a lighter.
Meanwhile, Charles left Lavender Court, got in his car, and drove off toward the police station.
He barely slowed for anything. Once at the police station, he flashed his ID, explained his business, and was immediately escorted to see the body that was supposedly Alicia.
