Alicia rushed in and grabbed his arm to steady him. “Mr. Yates, what are you doing? Just tell me and I’ll handle. it for you.”

Charles chuckled, “You don’t have to do that.”

“Of course, I have to! You just saved my life, and I owe you big time. Whatever you need in the future, just tell me and I’ll take care of it,” Alicia insisted.

With that, she added seriously, “Anything at all.”

Charles

gave a faint smile. “You can’t help with this one.”

“Just tell me,” Alicia begged, looking at him with wide, hopeful eyes.

Charles said, “I need to use the restroom.”

Alicia blurted out, “I’ll help you…”

The moment the words slipped out, Alicia’s face lit up bright red with embarrassment. She added, “I mean, I can help you get there.”

“Well…” Charles cleared his throat, feeling a bit awkward. “That’s not really appropriate, is it?”

Alicia hurried to assure him, “Relax, I swear I won’t peek. I won’t take advantage of you or anything.”

Charles was speechless.

He was honestly caught completely off guard by how unexpectedly bold Alicia was acting.

‘Has she been possessed or something?’ Charles wondered to himself.

He didn’t try to get up again and just sat back down.

Alicia watched him and said, “Mr. Yates, you really shouldn’t hold it in. That’s not good for your kidneys.”

Words failed Charles.

‘Why does she keep mentioning my kidneys? Does she think I have some kind of kidney problem or something?’ Charles grumbled inwardly.

“Come on. Let me help you over there,” Alicia said.

Charles sighed, “Really, my kidneys are just fine.”

“Oh.” Alicia nodded. “If you hold it in for too long, that’s not good for your kidneys either.”

Charles raised an eyebrow. “Why do you care about my kidneys so much?”

Alicia nearly choked on her own spit and started coughing up a storm. Only then did she realize that she’d been way too obsessed with Charles’s kidneys.

‘Does he think I am into him or something?’ Alicia freaked out inside.

She coughed for a good while, and Charles even reached out to gently pat her back until she finally got her

breath back.

She took a deep breath and said, “Mr. Yates, please don’t get me wrong. You saved my life, so I want to repay you. I’m just worried about your health. It’s not what you think.”

Charles asked, “Repay me?”

Alicia nodded. “Yes.”

Charles continued, “How will you repay me?”

Alicia replied, “I’ll take care of you while you’re recovering.”

“Oh,” Charles replied coolly. Then he casually remarked, “You know, in TV dramas, when someone saves another person’s life, the payback is usually offering themselves in return. Miss Lawrence, your way

of

expressing gratitude seems a bit perfunctory.”

Alicia’s eyes went wide with shock. “What? Offer myself to you?”

Seeing her completely startled, Charles could have kicked himself. He was way too hasty with that joke.

He chuckled, “Relax, you don’t have to act like those TV characters. I just thought your way of repaying me was kind of perfunctory.”

“So, Mr. Yates, how do you want me to pay you back?” Alicia asked.

“Honestly, I’m not missing anything in my life right now, so nothing comes to mind. Let’s just say you owe me one. I’ll cash it in whenever I think of something,” Charles said with a smirk.

Alicia felt a strange sense of familiarity as she heard those words. It seemed that she had heard that line before.

After pondering for a moment, she recalled that when she had given Charles the brooch, he had insisted on thanking her right away. But she brushed him off, saying he could owe her until she decided what she wanted in return.

Alicia thought, ‘Now he’s using the same tactic on me. Is he going to bring up that he saved my life to cancel out whatever favor I ask of him in the future?

‘And what if, someday, he realizes I’m not really the one who saved his life? What am I supposed to do then?’

The realization hit her. She thought, ‘Mr. Yates really is a businessman. This guy never lets himself take a loss.

‘But really, what else can I say at this point?

“This time. I’d totally used him. He’d not only gotten injured saving me, but also lost a major project over it.

Alicia could only give a sheepish smile. “Alright, I owe

you

It seemed that she had to come up with something else.

She needed to pull off something really major. Even if Charles found out one day she wasn’t really the one who saved his life, he still wouldn’t have the heart to turn against her.

Of course, trying to figure out a plan like that on the spot was pretty much impossible. For now, she’d just shower Charles with kindness.

Even if she never managed to come up with anything, at least Charles might go easy on her later, just for old times’ sake since she’d treated him so well.

With that in mind, she quickly reached out to help Charles up, flashing him a bright smile. “Come on. Let me help you to the restroom.”

Words failed Charles.

‘Is she really dead set on getting me to the restroom?’ Charles thought, feeling a bit helpless.

Looking at her so intently, he couldn’t help but think that if he didn’t go today, he’d be letting her down.

In the end, there was no escaping it. With a resigned sigh, he had no choice but to let her support him as he stood up.

There was a restroom right here in the room.

Alicia helped him inside and even flipped the toilet lid up for him. Then she grinned and chirped, “It’s all set.”

Charles felt kind of embarrassed. He gave an awkward cough. “Are you seriously going to stand there and watch me do my business?”

That was when it hit Alicia. “Oh! I’ll just… close my eyes!”

“Just wait outside,” Charles said.

Alicia bit her lip, a little anxious. “Are you sure you won’t fall if I don’t stay to help you?”

“I’ll be fine,” Charles replied, resolute. “Wait for me outside.”

“Okay…” Alicia glanced around the restroom, gently reached out, and took his hand.

Her hand was cool and incredibly soft. When her fingers wrapped around his, he felt a gentle, ticklish shiver, like a feather brushing his heart.
