Alicia rushed to pour him some water.

Charles lay back on the hospital bed, watching her small, busy figure moving about, a faint smile playing on his lips.
As Alicia brought the water over, Charles winced, pressing his hand against his wound and said, “It hurts a bit. I’m too weak.”
Alicia blinked and then offered softly, “Let me feed you.”
“Sure!” Charles instantly perked up and parted his lips.
Alicia carefully brought the cup to his lips, lifting it slowly to avoid choking him. She stood on her tiptoes, leaning in closer, her movements gentle yet a bit tense.
The sweet fragrance unique to her drifted right into Charles’s nose, catching in his breath.
His whole body froze for a split second, caught off guard. Before he could swallow, the water went straight down the wrong way.
Charles suddenly started coughing hard.
Alicia jumped, quickly setting the cup aside and snatching up some tissues to wipe him down, her movements flustered and frantic.
Her hand accidentally brushed his lips, and a jolt shot through Charles. His whole body went numb and tingly, and he felt an uncontrollable reaction. Fearing she might notice, he quickly yanked the covers up to hide everything below his waist and sat there, frozen and motionless.
After she finished wiping, Alicia tilted her head, checking if she’d completely dried the water off his chin. As her breath softly grazed his neck, Charles felt his heart pounding, like it was about to burst out of his chest.
He couldn’t help sneaking a look at her profile, admiring her porcelain skin and those long, fluttering lashes.
He could feel the heat rushing up to his ears.
Alicia tilted her head and checked his chin carefully, making sure every drop of water was gone. Then she smiled sweetly at him, her eyes crinkling. “It’s all clean. Not a spot left.”
Charles had been admiring her profile when she suddenly lifted her head. Their eyes met. They were so close that he could barely breathe. Instinctively, he clutched the blanket tighter and swallowed hard, feeling his throat constrict. He forced himself to look away and stared off to the side.
He fought to keep his voice even, not letting it shake. “It’s all cleaned up now, so you can get up.”
“Okay.” Alicia grinned, stepped back and asked, “Mr. Yates, are you hungry?”
“Yeah.” Charles nodded.

“Then L…” Alicia was about to say she’d go out and buy him something to eat.

But before she could finish, Charles cut in, “I want some tomato pasta, just like the ones you made last time. They were really good.”
Alicia thought. He’s right. Takeout food isn’t always clean, and who knows how fresh the ingredients really are? It’s better for his recovery if I make something myself’
After all, Charles was in this bed because he got hurt saving her. The least Alicia could do was make him a meal herself.
Her eyes brightened and she nodded quickly. “Alright! I’ll cook it at home and bring it right over.”
“I’ll get Kevin to pick you up,” Charles said as he was already reaching for his phone to call Kevin.
“No need. I’ll just go by myself. I’m off.” Alicia didn’t give Charles a chance to talk her out of it. She waved and slipped out of the room.
Just as she stepped out, she ran into Harvey, who had just gotten back from a meeting.
Harvey looked surprised. “Are you leaving so soon?”
Alicia smiled, “Mr. Yates wants me to make the tomato pasta again, so I’m heading home to cook it and bring it over.”
“Need a lift? I’m heading out myself. I can drop you off on the way,” Harvey offered.
“Really? What a coincidence. Thanks, Doctor Johnson,” Alicia grinned at him.
Harvey went straight to his car without another word.
Alicia got off at a supermarket right by Linen Bay Residences.
He watched her disappear into the supermarket. Then he swung his car back around and returned to the hospital.
Honestly, he didn’t have any errands. He was just playing chauffeur for her.
Alicia figured she’d cook some soup for Charles, something to help him recover.
Yet, she’d never taken care of anyone before, so she had no idea what kind of soup to make for an injured guy.
She reached for her phone to look it up, only to realize Tiffany had swiped it.
Now, she was totally phone-less and flat broke.
Luckily, she hadn’t hit the supermarket yet. If she had, she’d be stuck at the checkout with no money to pay.
So Alicia had to rush home, grab her bank card and ID, and then find a nearby phone store. She needed a new phone now.

Anyway, that old phone should’ve been replaced ages ago.

The phone was given by Maria and she’d been using it since she got her first mobile. It had been five whole years. It was so slow that it lagged all the time. Every time it froze, she had to reset it just to keep it going for a little while longer.
Back then, Alicia blew all her cash buying presents for those freeloaders in the Lawrence family, while she pinched pennies for herself.
This time, she finally got herself a brand-new phone.
There was an Apple store right next to the supermarket. In one of her previous lives, she’d been a rich heiress side character, always swiping around the latest iPhone. She’d found them pretty great.
So she walked right in, planning to stick with Apple. But she didn’t dare splurge on the newest model. Instead, she chose one that was more of a good value.
Once the phone was sorted out, she went to grab a new SIM card for it.
Only then did she finally post on a forum, asking what kind of food was best for someone recovering from an injury.
She got a quick response: [My grandma always says protein helps with healing.]
[Totally agree with the comment above. That’s what people say in my family too.]

After scrolling through everyone’s replies, Alicia started thinking hard, ‘Wait, Charles injured his side. Oysters are high in protein. Should I get him some to help him heal?’
