Chloe tugged at the bear ears on her pajama and gave a playful laugh. “I’m going to go change too.”
She barely took a few steps before turning back to shout downstairs, “Sara, make that coffee I brought from home the other day for Miss Lawrence, okay?”
“Alright, got it,” Sara replied with a grin, then turned to Alicia. “Come on, let’s sit over here.”
“Sure,” Alicia nodded and followed Sara to a small lounge area by the window, where four loveseats were arranged in a circle around a glass coffee table.
“Miss Lawrence, have a seat. I’ll make some coffee,” Sara said, smiling as she headed over to the small bar next to the lounge.
A coffee set and some cups were on the counter. Sara washed all the cups before starting to make coffee.
Alicia sat back on the sofa, looking around at the room. Everything felt familiar, yet strangely distant.
She remembered–back in her previous life, she’d sat in this exact spot, watching Sara brew coffee while Chloe and Zoe cozied up beside her, fussing nonstop. “Did you eat enough? Want some more?”
The rain was pouring down outside. Chloe even braved the rain to buy her some fruit. “You can’t just eat carbs,” she said. “You only had pasta, and there’s barely any veggies in it. You need fruit for the vitamins. Eat
more.”
Recalling those memories now, Alicia felt a dull ache settle in her chest, making her even more unsettled.
Sara quickly brought over the coffee. “Miss Lawrence, here’s the coffee.”
“Thanks,” Alicia said, taking a sip. It was definitely good coffee, though Sara’s brewing wasn’t quite on point
yet.
Sara sat across from Alicia, grinning. She kept fidgeting with her hands, obviously unsure what to say and awkwardly trying to fill the silence.
Alicia glanced towards the door. Despite being in a bustling city, this area felt quiet–most of the people who passed by were either elderly residents, children, or housewives. Everyone was busy with their own lives, too caught up to stop and admire art.
Before long, Chloe and Zoe came downstairs, freshly changed. They both looked a little embarrassed. “We stayed up too late last night and just couldn’t get up this morning,” Chloe admitted.
Alicia smiled lightly. “Young people and late nights. Happens to the best of us.”
Chloe tossed her long, wavy hair over her shoulder. “Miss Lawrence, why didn’t you give us a heads up and call first? We were in such a rush that we forgot to leave you the address or even tell you the name of the gallery. How did you find it?”
Alicia realized she had totally forgotten to ask for that information. She had only made it here because of her memories from her previous life.

She covered smoothly, “I happened to overhear you guys mention the gallery’s name, so I just hopped in a cab and came over. The driver knew where it was.”
Sara’s eyes lit up. “Really? So our gallery isn’t that unknown after all? Even the cab drivers know where we are.”
Alicia smiled gently. “Yeah, turns out, it’s really not bad at all.”
Zoe, gently pouring coffee, asked, “Miss Lawrence, did you have breakfast yet? Chloe can pick up something extra for you if you haven’t.”
Alicia let out a light laugh. “I’ve already had breakfast, so really, don’t bother.”
Chloe pulled on her gloves and said, “Even if you’ve eaten, you can always have a little more. I’ll be back before you know it.”
With that, she rolled her motorcycle out from downstairs, shot the three of them a casual wave, and called, “Wait for me.” She hopped on and rode off in a flash.
Zoe, ever so polite, softly said, “Miss Lawrence, I have the contract here. Please take a look. If anything’s not to your liking, just let me know and we can work it out.”
Alicia gave the contract a quick once–over, then said, “It’s all good.”
“Alright, let’s just wait for Chloe to get back, then we’ll sign,” Zoe said.
Alicia nodded.
Chloe was back before anyone could blink, hauling a massive bag. She parked her motorcycle and put the bag down on the table. “Ta–da! Honestly, Miss Lawrence, I had no clue what you liked, so I just grabbed one of everything.”
“Let’s have breakfast first,” Zoe said.
The girls were so enthusiastic that Alicia couldn’t bring herself to refuse. She joined them, trying a little bit of everything.
After breakfast, they cleaned up, and by then it was 10 AM. Yet, still, no one had entered the gallery, while the street outside was busy with people hustling by.
Zoe pulled out the contract again. “Let’s get this signed.”
Alicia nodded, pen in hand, ready to sign when Chloe looked at the door and sighed. “It’s so busy out there, but no one’s coming in here. Miss Lawrence, you’ve seen it for yourself. If you want to change your mind, now’s your chance”
Alicia said, “Honestly, the gallery’s location just wasn’t ideal. But never mind that for now–I’m not backing out. Once the contract’s signed, we’ll talk about it.”
So the four of them picked up their pens, each grabbing a copy of the contract to sign. When everyone was done, they swapped documents with each other.

But as they kept passing the contracts around, things got all mixed up. Sara snatched one from Zoe and exclaimed, “Wait–I’ve totally signed this already. Chloe, did I ever sign the one you’re holding?”
