What is this woman even saying? Even Edward said this painting was good, and she’s talking like that. Is she better than Edward?‘ Sara thought.
But then, Zoe spoke up. “This painting isn’t by the Sweetheart Queen. It’s by Ms. Alicia Lawrence.”
The man looked shocked. “Wait, this isn’t by Sweetheart Queen? But it looks so much like her work.”
Chloe realized the man probably hadn’t been following the online drama. She explained, “All those paintings the Sweetheart Queen posted online were actually painted by Alicia. The Sweetheart Queen is her sister, and she’s been using Alicia’s work to scam people online.”
The man looked a bit surprised, but he didn’t really care. It wasn’t his business anyway.
Eleanor turned to Alicia, eyes sparkling. “Your painting is impressive, and your technique is solid. With a bit more refinement, you could really make a name for yourself. How about you let me mentor you? Just a year, two at most, and I can help you become a star.”
Before Alicia could respond, the man standing beside Eleanor tugged at her arm. “Eleanor, we need to head out.”
“I’m not leaving,” Eleanor replied, her excitement building. “After all these years, I’ve finally found someone whose talent I admire. She could be the next big thing in art. I have to guide her.”
The man, now frustrated, stepped forward and pulled Eleanor closer. “Eleanor, you’ve already retired from painting. You’re not taking on students anymore. Let’s go–home.”
Eleanor shook him off, her eyes shining with renewed energy. “No, I need to teach her. If I can pass on my skills to her, she’ll be my legacy.”
“You can’t teach her. You can’t even show her how yourself,” the man snapped, frustration clear in his voice. “Stop dragging others down with you.”
Eleanor froze. She just stood there, looking like a flower that had wilted in seconds, all the spark gone from
eyes. She forced a bitter smile. “Yeah, maybe all I ever do is drag people down.”

She glanced at her right hand, slammed it against the wall, and muttered, “What good is this hand? I can’t even hold a brush anymore. Maybe I should just cut it off.”
She hit the wall with such force that her knuckles began to bleed.
The man rushed to her, pulling her into his arms. “Eleanor, don’t do this! Please, stop!”
Chloe, Sara, and Zoe stared at Eleanor, shocked, wondering if she was out of her mind.
Alicia turned to the man and asked gently, “Would you like to take your wife to the lounge so she can sit down
and rest for a while?”
“No, thank you, sorry for disturbing you,” the man said quickly, pulling Eleanor out of the gallery.

Once they were gone, Sara sighed in relief. “Damn. She’s got to be insane, right?”

Chloe shook her head. “She looked so elegant, but she’s completely lost it. And that guy–how does he put up with her? Why hasn’t he left her already?”
Zoe clutched her chest. “That was terrifying. Look at the wall–there’s blood everywhere. We’ll have to repaint it. We can’t let anyone like her back in here. If she goes crazy again and someone gets hurt, it could ruin the gallery.”
Sara added, “At least she didn’t try to take this painting.”
Alicia glanced at them and chuckled softly. “Honestly, she probably didn’t even care about it.”
“No way! She was all over this painting. She even tried to take Alicia on as her student. But seriously, where does she get the nerve?” Sara scoffed.
Alicia fell silent for a few seconds, then suddenly asked, “Do you guys know who she is?”
The three shot her puzzled looks.
Alicia said, “Eleanor Quill.”
They stared blankly. “Who’s Eleanor Quill?”
“You guys seriously never heard of Eleanor Quill?” Alicia asked, a little surprised.
They shook their heads.
Alicia explained, “Eleanor used to be famous in the art world, with skills that were almost unmatched. Her paintings were so sought–after that even if you had the money, you probably couldn’t get one. But then, five years ago, she suddenly announced she’d never paint again.”
“Wait, why?” the three of them asked in unison.
Alicia gently rubbed her fingers and said, “My guess is she injured her hand so badly she just can’t paint anymore.”
“Wow, that’s such a shame,” Chloe said.
Zoe sighed. “Now that you say that, I can really tell–she’s just absolutely passionate about art, almost obsessed, really. She’s a total perfectionist, super hard on herself and everyone else too.
“No wonder she gets so fired up when she sees anything that doesn’t meet her standards.”
Alicia nodded. “Yeah, honestly, if I could learn a thing or two from her, my skills could really improve. And with how respected she is, if we could build a good relationship with her, it’d honestly be a win–win for our gallery.”
