Chapter 166

Charles kept going with his poker–faced nonsense. “It’s mainly about the medicine–if the water’s too hot, you’ll ruin the effect.”
“Wait, for real? That’s actually a thing?” Alicia blinked, genuinely surprised.
Charles nodded seriously. “Yep, Harvey said so.”
Alicia nodded. “Alright, just wait for the water to cool down. I’m gonna go to the bathroom. Once you take the medicine and rest for a bit, you should start feeling better. If it doesn’t help, we might have to go to the hospital.”
“Okay,” Charles replied.
All of a sudden, Alicia thought he looked just like a well–behaved kid.
She couldn’t help but tease him, “Take your medicine like a good boy, and I’ll bring you some candy later. I promise it won’t be bitter.”
Charles looked at her adorable expression and smiled.
Alicia turned and headed to the bathroom, and Charles sat back on the couch, waiting for the water to cool. After a while, he finally took the medicine. He lay down on the couch for a moment, resting.
Alicia spent a good fifteen minutes in the bathroom. When she came out, she saw Charles still lying on the couch.
She went to the kitchen and grabbed a box of candy–the same fruity ones they used to eat as kids. The kind that had colorful wrappers but were pretty cheap and rare to find now.
She picked one out and passed it to him. “Here, have one.”
Charles took the candy, saw it was pineapple flavor–Alicia’s favorite.
As Alicia went to put the box away, Charles carefully slipped the candy into his pocket, without eating it.
After putting away the box of candy, Alicia wandered over to her easel. She glanced at her half–finished drawing and the clock–it was already 11:30 PM.
After thinking for a second, she said, “Why don’t we continue this another time? Mr. Yates, you’re not feeling your best today. Try to get some rest early, okay?”
Charles checked the time too. It really was late, and honestly, Alicia could use some rest as well. He nodded. “Alright, I’ll head back now.”
He got up from the couch, but as soon as he stood, he swayed a little and had to steady himself on the
armrest.
Alicia was startled. “You can’t drive like this. It’s late. Why don’t you just stay here tonight?”

Chapter 166
She didn’t think it was a big deal. After all, it was his house too
Bot when Charles heard her suggestion, his gaze suddenly turned serious. He stared at her, his eyes burning with an intensity she hadn’t seen before. His hands trembled slightly.
You want me to stay here with you?” he asked, his voice low and shaky.
Alicia was taken aback and quickly waved her hands. “No, no, Mr. Yates, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just worried about you. You can’t drive, and it’s your place too. Staying here for one night won’t be an issue, right?”
Before she could finish. Charles’s eyes grew colder. His voice dropped, sounding a little hurt. “Are you worried about me because you care, or are you just scared you’ll be responsible if something happens?”
Alicia blinked, confused by his sudden coldness. Sure, she was worried about herself getting involved, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t worried about him.
But Charles looked kinda scary right now. Alicia got how people worked–guys like him, sitting at the top. always wanted folks to genuinely care about them. Not because of their name, or just to avoid trouble if something went wrong.
Alicia thought for a second, then said, “Of course I care about you.”
When Charles heard her reply, a faint smile tugged at his lips. ‘She cares about me. Even though she doesn’t know I’m that Charlie yet, she still cares. Does that mean she might actually like me?‘
He hadn’t told her he was that Charlie from her childhood, because he wanted her to fall for him in the present, not because of their past.
At her words of concern, a wave of tenderness washed over him, melting his heart. He felt an encouragement like never before, a sure sign that his original decision had been correct.
He said. “Then I’ll sleep on the couch tonight.”
“Alright, I’ll grab you a blanket,” Alicia said, nodding quickly. She hurried to her bedroom and found a blanket to bring to him.
When Alicia moved in, half of the closet was already loaded up with Charles’s clothes. She hadn’t dared to move them, knowing they were expensive. So she just put her stuff on the other side and left his fancy shirts untouched.
She honestly had no clue what Charles liked to wear to bed, so she just shrugged and said, “Mr. Yates, your clothes are still in the closet. Just pick out whatever you want.”
Charles hesitated for a second, suddenly feeling a bit awkward about walking into her bedroom. Even though he’d stayed there before, it felt different now–it was her space.
Alicia noticed his hesitation. “Is something wrong? I haven’t touched your clothes. Don’t worry, they’re clean.”
Charles took a deep breath and, after a moment, walked inside her room. As he did, his palms grew clammy.
He looked around. Her room had changed–a few plants, her artwork on the walls, and the bedding had

changed from dull gray to a soft blue with a floral design. It looked warm and inviting now.
It suddenly struck him that a house only truly became a home with a woman in it.

He walked over to the closet and opened it, seeing their clothes hanging together–his and hers. It was like a couple’s closet, and it made his heart flutter.
He couldn’t help but smile at the sight, feeling this sweet, overwhelming emotion. He stood there for a moment, staring at the clothes with a silly grin on his face.
When Alicia noticed Charles still hadn’t come out, she stepped inside and asked, “Did you find your pajamas?”
