Chapter 173
Liam shoved the door open so hard it banged against the wall, then strode inside, pacing the floor like a man on the edge.
“Zero percent. Zero fucking percent.” His voice was loud, cutting through the room. “That’s what you should’ve told me when I asked the chances of me liking him.”
I closed the door quietly, watching him pace. “Calm down, Liam. At least get to know him before writing him off.”
He turned toward me, eyes burning. “I’m not interested. How long have you known?”
“Not long,” I said softly. “I found out while you were away.”
“And Jay?”
“Just today,” I admitted.
Liam ran a hand through his damp hair, muttering under his breath. “Better that way. But how could Sophia be this reckless? Of all the men in this city, she chooses him. That singer.”
I let out a small laugh, tugging his hand until he sat on the bed beside me.
“Relax. Mason is a great guy.”
His glare deepened. “You’re making it worse by praising him.”
“Fine, no praise.” I smoothed his hand between mine. “But you love Sophia. You want what’s best for her. If she says it’s Mason she wants, then your job is to support her. She’d do the same for you.”
For a moment, he was silent, staring past me. Then he shook his head firmly. “No. Not that guy.”
I exhaled. “I tried to make this easy, Liam. Guess this is where we play.”
“Emily,” he warned, recognizing the shift in my tone.
“You remember the day we confirmed the pregnancy at the hospital? You said I could ask for anything I wanted.”

He groaned, already bracing himself “Don’t. Emily.”

“Well, I’m taking that wish now “I cupped his cheek. “All I want is for you to walk downstairs, sit at that table, and act like an adult host. Play nice. Be civil. For me. And for our baby.”
His hands dragged down his face. “Days like this, I hate that you’re my weakness.”
I kissed his temple. “And I love you for it.”
His eyes softened. “It’s because I love you that I’ll do this.”
When we returned to the living room, Jay and Mason were deep in conversation, trading jokes like old friends. Sophia sat stiffly beside them, adjusting her necklace again and again, her nerves plain on her face.
We moved to the dining table. Liam pulled out my chair before sitting next to me, his shoulders still tight with tension. I leaned close and whispered, “Remember, you’re supposed to behave.”
Across the table, Jay caught the exchange, grinning mischievously.
“Jay.” I said sharply, “whatever you’re planning, direct it at Sophia. This is her night.”
“Emily!” Sophia hissed.
Jay laughed, raising his hands. “Relax. I was just reminiscing.”
“About what?” I asked.
“About the first time you met Liam,” he said. “Mason’s seeing the same version tonight. Cold as
stone.”
I laughed. “Oh, the jerk version. Total douchebag.”
“Always grumpy,” Sophia chimed in quickly.
Liam arched a brow, though the corner of his mouth curved slightly. “Keep talking like I’m not sitting right here.”
Jay smirked. “Emily was the only one bold enough to check him from the start. And he didn’t even react. That’s when I knew she’d stick around.”
I tilted my head at Liam, teasing. “He couldn’t resist me. Love at first sight.” I glanced at Sophia. “Soph, what’s that line again?”

Sophia rolled her eyes but recited it anyway. “Girl’s so hot, she got the boy tripping hard.”
