Chapter 174
Looked at Jay “When will you change so someone can actually vouch for you the way you just did for Mason?
Jay laughed. “I’m trying, Em, but temptation is too much.”
“You’re shameless,” I shot back.
Liam’s voice cut in again. “Mason, how do you plan to protect Sophia from your fan base? Because I won’t have it consuming her.”
Mason answered with quiet confidence. “When we go public, I’ll set firm boundaries. No exceptions.”
I perked up. “So you’d want it public?”
“Yes.” he said without hesitation.
I turned to Sophia, then back to him. “Interesting. She’s the one keeping it private.”
Sophia groaned. “Emily, don’t start.”
I smiled at Mason. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you.”
His eyes gleamed. “How?”
“You’ll get a text,” I said simply.
“Emily” Sophia protested
Mason chuckled. “Then I’ll be watching my phone.”
Sophia covered her face with her hands. “You never miss a chance to scheme.”
Jay leaned back, grinning. “And why should she? The student’s just proving she’s learned from the best teacher.”
Mason blinked. “Wait. Sophia schemes too?”
The three of us burst out laughing. “Welcome, Mason. You’ll learn the game soon enough.”

The rest of dinner flowed easier, tension slowly giving way to laughter. By the time Jay and Mason left together. Liam even shook Mason’s hand. A small but certain step forward
When the door closed. Sophia turned to Liam at once. “So?”
“So what?” he asked flatly.
“Come on, Liam. What do
you think?”
He hesitated, then sighed. “I hate to admit it, but… he seems like a decent guy. And I’m rarely wrong about people.”
Sophia squealed and practically bounced toward her room.
“Careful, Soph!” I called after her.
Silence settled once she was gone. Liam slid an arm around my waist, drawing me closer. “Alright, Emily. What text are you planning to send Mason?”
I grinned. “I knew you’d ask. But I’m not telling.”
His smirk turned dangerous. “Are you sure about that?”
“Yes.”
He swept me off my feet, carrying me bridal style toward our bedroom.
“Liam! I said no!” I laughed, hitting his chest lightly.
His voice dropped near my ear. “You will before the night is over,
Liam always got his way. By the time he was done making me pay for dragging him through that dinner, for forcing him to behave, I was left a mess of laughter and breathless pleas.
When he finally let me collapse against his chest, still humming from the aftermath of him, I gave in. The words spilled out in the dark, tangled between kisses and whispers.
I told him about the plan. The little push I thought Sophia needed to finally take things public.
When I finished, he laughed, shaking his head. “Sophia is going to walk straight into that trap. You’re cruel, Em.”
“Not cruel,” I corrected, tracing my fingers down his arm. “Helpful.”

“Helpful in a way that’s going to get you in trouble,” he murmured, pressing a kiss against my temple
“She’ll realize it was worth it.” I said with a smile against his chest. But deep down, I knew he was right Sophia would either thank me later, or come for my head.
The day Mason and I set our meeting, we agreed on a restaurant. It felt safer to talk away from the house. if Sophia even overheard a whisper of this plan, everything would crumble.
When I left, I told her I was heading over to spend the afternoon with my mom.
“Tell her I said hi,” Sophia called after me.
I forced a smile. “Will do.”
She had no idea where I was really going.
Mason was already waiting when I arrived. He smiled as I settled carefully into the seat across from him, amusement flickering in his eyes.
