Clive took a quiet breath. “But they’re not really your own kids…”
Kristen looked up at him, her eyes still shining with tears. “For them, I’d give up ever having kids of my own. I mean it, Clive.”
He froze, genuinely shocked. He never thought Kristen would go that far.
“Kristen…”
She reached up and gently touched his face, her smile soft, eyes full of love. “Your kids are my kids now. After we get married, if you don’t want more children, I won’t have any. I’ll even get surgery if you want. Whatever makes you comfortable.”
Clive was completely overwhelmed. He didn’t know what to say, just wrapped his arms around Kristen and held her tight.
He closed his eyes and let out a shaky sigh. “Why are you so good to me? You’re too much, you know that?”
Compared to her, women like Amelia just seemed cold and distant.
Kristen rested her head against his chest, her lips curling in a tiny, satisfied smile, but her voice was soft and sincere. “For you, I don’t mind being a fool…”

Amelia was already packed up as the workday ended.
Since she was meeting Timmy’s friends for the first time, she wanted to look her best. Before heading out, she slipped into the restroom and gave her makeup a quick refresh.
She’d already ordered a rideshare, so when she stepped outside, her car was waiting.
Amelia gave the driver the restaurant address and settled in for the ride.
On the way, they passed a car dealership, and Amelia found herself thinking it was about time she bought her own car. Something modest, maybe twenty or thirty grand—just enough to make life easier. Ever since she’d found out that the car she’d been borrowing was worth over four hundred grand, she’d driven it like she was walking on eggshells. She made sure to get it washed after every use, constantly worried she’d scratch or ding it.
She was doing better financially now, and once her divorce from Clive was finalized, money really wouldn’t be an issue anymore.
