CH 51
Jace
He’d walked away from her room with only more guilt and regret. He’d ruined a lot for her that day. Zelda was
right; what might not have been important to him that day, was in fact extremely important to her. He’d not
considered the time of year or anything at all, where she was concerned on that day, and that was once
again his mistake.
He saw how much she studied, bloody hated how much she kept her head down in those books, and she’d
told him she had exams just two and a half weeks prior to that, so he should have known that the end–of–year results were due to come out, but he’d not even thought about it that day.
Even though he had been trying to find ways to reconnect with her prior to that, he’d not realized it at the
time, that he couldn’t connect to her, because he was the one hurting her. Point of fact, even after she’d
stalked off inside, and he’d called her childish, Gloria had come and stood next to him, smiled and been the
pack’s Luna.
He’d seen Desmond look from him to Gloria later that afternoon and shake his head at him as if to say, and
there’s the problem right there. Not that Jace had done anything about it, even though he’d seen the near on
bloodlust come from Nora and her beast. He’d not been the one to care, he’d still wanted Gloria then. His
spending time with Nora had been his wolf pushing his wants at him, because of how she’d been afterwards.
He thought he was placating her by spending more time with her, but all he’d likely done was just show her
she was absolutely nothing to him at all. Now he’d finally seen the light, and done what he should have
months ago, and from what he’d seen up there in her room just now.
He knew that he was on the right track, by removing Gloria and, albeit having to forcibly make Nora hear his
pack–wide announcement; that Gloria wasn’t the acting Luna anymore. It showed her that he meant
everything he was saying about seating her as the Luna. She wouldn’t just be seen as his Mate anymore, but
his Mate and Luna. How it should have always been.
Leaving her alone yesterday to calm down after forcing that mind–link upon her was also probably a good
idea. It gave her time to calm down about it and see that he was really trying to make amends. She’d also not
yelled at him today or tried to tick him off on purpose, like she’d done so many times before over the past few
weeks.
Although he knew she was still not happy with him, and was very cold and distant with him, but what more
could he expect? There was no way she was just going to smile at him and forgive him. It would be nice, but he knew if she did that, it was likely to be a lie. She did get to see that he was sorry and that he had regrets about what he’d done to her the day she’d left him.
He, however, couldn’t take it back, or even fix it, everything she’d said he’d done; he’d ruined that moment of what should have been pure excitement and joy. He didn’t even know if she’d gotten the results that day or had to wait until the next day. She’d not even been able to call her parents and tell them either. He’d royally screwed up everything.
He walked into his office and sat at his desk and found his unit all looking at him. “She didn’t yell at me for the first time since getting out of the hospital,” he murmured.
“A start.” Mark nodded.

“What did happen?” Matt asked him.
“You don’t want to know. There will be no private meal with me at this point. Her exact words were, would you forgive me if I did that to you?” He closed his eyes and sighed. “No, is the answer, no Alpha would stand for a
Mate betraying them. It now I want her to forgive me, for something I wouldn’t ever forgive, and she stated
she didn’t know if she could, and if she could, she’d likely never forget what I did ever, either,”
“She won’t,” Matt told him flatly. “And every time you smile at a she–wolf or offer to help them personally,
she’s going to wonder if you’re going to do it all over again. Forgiveness doesn’t waylay the root of the issue.
You were unfaithful and she knows it.”
“I never had s*x with anyone,” Jace muttered.
“It’s not about that; it’s about the fact that you loved another when you shouldn’t have.” John told him,”
Shows you could do it again, ignore the mate bond and hurt her. She’ll be forever looking for that from now
on, signs that you’re looking at another.”
“Great,” Jace muttered once more.
“What can you expect?” Matt stated, “Did she say anything encouraging at all?”
“Not really. Told me to leave her alone. It still hurt just looking at me,” he sighed.
“Likely it does.” Matt nodded.
“Don’t give up, just keep planning that Luna Ceremony, so she knows you’re not giving up. If she feels that
you are letting go of it, you’ll only be back to square one,” Mark told him. “So, what have you decided to do
about it?”
“Pack colors, because I have no idea what she will want. That Luna Ceremony planner, I can’t trust it, my
memory of what she was wearing that day and what that picture in it is, don’t add up. I dare say Gloria edited
the photo to change the dress colors, so that when I plan it, it will be to Gloria’s tastes not Nora’s.” he
scrubbed a hand over his face.
“I have hurt both of them. I now see and trying to sort this mess out is not going to be easy. I feel my
rejecting Gloria now. Only after nearly losing Nora, sees Gloria still thinks I love her, but am now just trying to be loyal to the Mate Bond.”
“Are you?” Matt asked.
“Yes and no, I guess, is the answer. I’ll have to at some point go and talk to Gloria, apologize to her for all
that has gone on. I never did that; just told her I was going to be with Nora from now on. That we were over.
But I have never actually apologized to her for the past few months,” and he’d not. “I think maybe a real apology will help her to see I mean to accept the mate bond and only be with Nora, as it should have been in
the first place.”
“I think you should just stay away from Gloria altogether, Jace,” Matt stated.
“If I don’t apologize Matt, Gloria could become a real issue, a problem for both Nora and I. She’s been seated for 60 years, and considers herself Luna Ranked. Even though no Alpha venom runs in her veins. She likely also has a lot of support inside this pack, and could cause trouble if I don’t handle her right.”
“Agreed.” Matt finally nodded, “Don’t, however, let that she–wolf touch you or you, her, for that matter. It’s likely with how things are, Nora will feel it even if it’s not your intent. It could well be Gloria’s.”

He just nodded. “There will be no touching. On that note, I need to find a new office for Nora. She did express that if she could forgive me, there was no way she was going to be using the current Luna’s office as her own.
“Understandable.” John nodded. “What about the Luna Suite?”
He huffed “What Luna Suite, Nora pointed out there isn’t one, and she’s right.” He got up. “I need to deal with
that as well. Remove that plaque that states Gloria’s suite. It’s an insult to my Mate.” He headed back upstairs and used his master card to enter the suite and came to a halt inside it, as he looked about the suite. It had dark red walls with white trim, and a dark red rug over whitewashed flooring, with two red sofas
and two white armchairs. All of them had rose–accented decorative pillows,
This entire room was tailored to Gloria. It kind of looked like her office downstairs, not something that had
previously bothered him at all, but now coming in here he knew if Nora walked into this very room. All she’d
see was Gloria everywhere she looked, Gloria, he had a feeling, did this on purpose to make a very distinct
differentiation between her and Nora.
He walked through to the bedroom, a place he’d been in a million times over the course of their relationship.
It had been all soft creams and floral accents, it was now dark, and he thought it was meant to be romantic.
With a deep maroon feature wall, a brilliant white bed with a dark red and black rose duvet, the furniture in
here was actually quite similar to that of his own bedroom suite, just white instead of black.
If Nora came in here and saw this, she would see that the Luna suite was not only styled for Gloria but
damned near exactly the same as their own bedroom, just a different color. He wondered why none of this
had been taken down to the fourth floor where Gloria now lived. This was all her stuff, so why was it still
here?
He could only put it down to Gloria was still trying to make Nora feel out of place and unwanted by him. He
couldn’t have that, but what the hell was he supposed to do? He turned and left the suite mind–linked to the
pack handyman ‘Come and remove the sign from the former Luna’s suite.’
‘Alpha, J did that already.’
‘No, I mean the new sign that states Gloria’s suite. Why is it still here? She moved out of it well over a week
ago.
‘She told me to leave it there; she’d be moving back into it when Nora calmed down. Came the answer.
‘I want it gone; she’ll not be moving back into it.‘ He muttered and closed out the link.
