CH 54
Jace
He couldn’t do anything right, it seemed. Dean the pack Mechanic had just mind–linked to him about Nora being down there looking for her car, something that was being cleaned at his order. He’d apparently told her to use the car the Alpha would have given her, and even as he heard those words, he knew he’d never done that; purchased Nora a car. He’d not considered it. She had a car of her own; she had driven it to the pack
herself.
He would have to do that, organize something now, but again he had no idea what it was she would want. Stating she couldn’t pay for it with the Luna’s card? She had been issued a pack card he was certain of it. Every new pack member got one issued. It depended on their pack status as to how much money was
attached to it.
Nora would have a pack card with unlimited funds on it. He didn’t understand that one and connected himself to the pack accountant “Giovanni when did you issue Nora her pack card. She claims she never got
one.” he grated out.
“Let me check that Alpha…” there was a full minute of silence, and then he stated “I ordered it the day after she arrived, it was collected to be handed to her 10 days later. That is the standard delivery time. I can also see that she even activated it that very day… Hmm that is odd.”
“Collected to be delivered?” Jace asked, “Didn’t you just mink–link to her to come and pick it up herself.”
“Normally I would, but the Luna. I can see that it was signed for by Gloria,” Giovanni stated. “I’m sorry, Alpha, but that is sometimes protocol when it arrives and needs to be collected, but the she–wolf it’s for is in heat. The Luna collects it and hands it over to the recipient when their heat is over. Pack protocol is all. It does. actually have a note attached to it to say she was in heat… that is odd. How could it be activated if Nora was in heat?” the man sounded confused.
He was very unhappy about what he was hearing, if Nora was in heat when Gloria picked it up, and it had been activated that very day. That could only mean that Gloria was walking around using Nora’s pack card.
“What does it say on the card? Do you have that information?” Jace asked now, his actually stated, A. J. Remmington. The A stood for Alpha. Nora’s card should read L. N Remmington, Regardless of what was going on between them, she would have filled out the paperwork correctly at the time, he imagined.
“Hmm, oh that is odd… I’m sorry Alpha, it just states Luna Remmington. As though Luna is Nora’s first name. There must have been an error in the paperwork being filled out. I’ll cancel it and order a new one with the
correct formalities on it.
“How often does she use her card, because she states she never got one.” His brain was ticking now. Gloria
had to have that card in her possession. But without Nora’s actual name on it, he supposed Gloria, as the
acting Luna, could get round any pack laws about who it was issued for. This was turning into a bigger.
nightmare.
“All the time, at the pack café and dress stores here and in the city at times,” Giovanni told him.
“Cancel it now, it never made it to her.” he muttered and disconnected the link, as he stood watching Nora
walk up the stairs. She didn’t even look down the fourth floor hallway, she had likely seen Gloria moving

about using that pack card as well.
He’d told her one had been issued, and it had but had also been intercepted by Gloria. He could now see that Gloria had never, not for a single second, even thought about giving up her role of acting luna inside this pack. Everything she had ever said to him about just being happy to stand next to him was a complete te
She was actively trying to get Nora to reject him, but made it out that she was still a good Luna and flora was the issue. That their age gap and the generation Nora grew up in was very different, that Nora, being only 19 or 20 now, was of the generation where they only thought about themselves and only did things for themselves. It had also seemed that way to him.
Even when he’d been trying to spend more time with her, and she didn’t want that, Gloria had told him to be patient she was just young, and her studies concerned her more than having a mate bond. What 20–year–old was a Luna to a pack, most didn’t take the seat until 25 or much later.
That Nora wasn’t ready was all. She likely felt too young to be weighed down by the title, and she, Gloria, was happy to stay in the position until Nora was ready. That she’d step down gracefully when the time came, and he’d believed Gloria every time. Nodded and thought she was helping him, when in fact she was actively putting distance between them, and causing a rift that would break them completely with time.
Now that he was trying to create a true bond with Nora and had stepped away from Gloria, he could actually see just how much damage that she–wolf had done. Right from the minute Nora had stepped out of that car, he now knew Gloria had to be plotting and planning to get rid of her. No wonder he was struggling to fix it
Gloria had projected herself as the perfect Luna, never once allowed her jealousy to shine through, so held never thought anything of it. He was so blind, his eyes were on Nora as she disappeared from view up there, and as he brought them back down, he saw Gloria standing watching him, from the fourth floor.
She was still plotting, his words to her this morning about his actions, his apology to her over everything that had happened, him not being able to separate and choose all this time, had seen her smile and nod a little sadly. She’d not even gotten angry, she’d just sighed a little “I understand Jace.” She’d stated softly, “Nora must come first, is your Mate and is going through a rough time right now. Focus on her, she’ll come back to you.” is what she’d actually said to him. Still projected herself as calm and caring about Nora’s feelings, shown no jealously at all, though she hadn’t offered to help with her Luna Ceremony or do Luna Duties either.
She’d not even tried to touch him.
That she–wolf smiled at him now before walking away back down the hall to her suite. Her living here in the
packhouse was going to be a problem. She could actively see what was going on between him and Nora.
Likely why she’d chosen a suite on the floor below, he’d moved her out of the Luna Suite and told her to
choose a suite anywhere inside the packhouse that day.
He sighed as he thought about that, where she was, the suite she’d chosen. It was directly below the Luna
Suite, and she’d told the maintenance team to leave her sign on the door she’d be moving back into it. She was still plotting and planning up there, and he knew it. He couldn’t just drag her off to the cells she’d out
him and his words about them raising the heir to the pack to the entire pack.
It would solidify her position to the pack that he intended to have Nora have his child only to reject her so he and Gloria would be able to raise the child as their own. He couldn’t even deny it, he had actually stated those very words. No one would believe him that it was just a passing thought. Not when it was ordered out of him by the pack elders to repeat his own words of that day.
Gloria had to be silenced, but he didn’t know how to do it without her yelling about all the things they’d talked
about during their time as a couple or since Nora had become his Mate. If he took her head, it would be seen as he was silencing her for some reason.
If he banished her, there had to be a legitimate reason as well. She was always with her social group, never once seen to do anything wrong. Getting that she–wolf out of this pack and away from him and his Mate, was not such an easy thing. Considering she’d been the acting Luna for 60 years.
That amount of time showed not only the pack, but all his allies that she was completely trustworthy, and had never once done anything detrimental to the pack. So why would he suddenly banish her or take her head? He now realized his mistake the day he’d not punished Gloria and sided with her, when she had
attacked Nora in the foyer.
There had been pack members there to see it. He and his unit, and he’d not punished Gloria at all, that had shown this pack, that Gloria attacking Nora, his own Mate, was actually acceptable because she was his Luna, and Nora only his Mate. He couldn’t touch Gloria at all now, and she knew it.
He may have removed her from her office and seat of power, but all the groundwork had been laid to show this pack, that it was Gloria that held power over the Alpha’s Mate. Gloria could do no wrong. He’d always yelled at Nora for being childish about Gloria, and now he saw it, his eyes were wide open.
There was nothing he could do to Gloria without her having a comeback of ‘I did nothing wrong Alpha, you would have punished me already if I had harmed your Mate.’ He’d never once punished Gloria for anything, and this entire pack knew it. He’d even once stated to Nora why would he punish Gloria. She was a good Luna. She had been loyal to this pack for 60 years. There was no reason to punish her.
Gloria could have those very words ordered out of him, out of Nora herself. He didn’t know what to do right now. Gloria it appeared had him over a barrel. He could only right these things he thought once Nora was instated as the actual reigning Luna, and then Nora herself could punish that she–wolf. The shift of power
would happen only with the Luna Ceremony.
He had to get Nora to stand next to him, and only then could he get rid of Gloria. Well, have Nora get rid of her, she could see her as a viable threat and a new Luna banishing the woman she replaced could be
considered normal under those circumstances./
