CH 56
Nora
She frowned at Jace as she stepped into the foyer the following morning, and he greeted her with a smile. “I’d like to walk you to the pack cars.” He stated, “Actually, the boys and I have to go into the head office in the city this morning, so would you mind them trailing us, I thought I could ride with you.”
“You never mentioned that yesterday. I got the impression you didn’t have anything on at all today.” She commented right back.
“I was going to clear my schedule for you, but…” he sighed “you didn’t want me to spend the day with you. So, this way, I can at least spend an hour with you and greet your mother. Apologize to her for the lateness of your Luna Ceremony in person.”
That drew her attention, and although she had actually spoken with her mother, and they were going to meet at the dress store, that her mother had already left her pack, she had a longer drive than Nora did. She didn’t really want him interacting with her family at all. It wasn’t necessary in her eyes and she didn’t know if her mother could hold it all in.
“Unless, of course, Nora, you don’t want me to for some reason?” he stated, to her not answering him, and she saw his unit come from his office, dressed much the same as he was, in suits.
“Hmm. You might not like the reception you get from mother.” she shrugged it off. “I had to talk to someone about what was going on in my life. Seeing as the Gamma didn’t feel anything where I was concerned,” Her
eyes moved right towards Matt, “Only cared for Gloria and what she felt, I imagine.” She stated and saw Matt
flinch.
She turned to walk off through the packhouse. There were, she noted, fewer pack members here in the packhouse at this hour of the day than there normally would be, and she wondered if he’d done that on
purpose, told the pack to eat at home from now on, trying to limit their exposure to his mistakes or their
constant bickering.
“You told your mother what was going on?” she heard him state, and she heard the uncertainty and unhappiness in his voice as he followed her outside.
“I have,” she answered honestly. “So, get in the pack car if you like. I can’t guarantee she will be receptive,
even though she now knows you’re trying to make amends. She has been mated for 28 years, and I believe
my father, a regular warrior, understood what was expected of him and the gift given to him… Wasn’t… lacking
in that area, I suppose you could say.”
“Did you also tell your former Alpha?” He grabbed on to her arm and pulled her to a halt, yanked her around to
face him, and she heard the edge to his voice. Had she made him look like a fool in another Alpha’s eye what he was asking?
Nora looked at that hand on her arm and then wondered if he knew just how tight a grip he had on her. “Did
you?” he asked.
“Yes, bruise me once more and see where it gets you.” she grated out at him. “I warned you not to touch me, and yet when you do, it’s all Alpha strength and causes me pain.” She tried to yank her arm from him and
couldn’t.

His eyes moved towards her hand, pulling at his hand and he let go. “I’m sorry, I just.”
“Why do you even bother?” She shot at him, looked right up at him. “Just reject me, Jace, and save yourself from having to put on an act, and force yourself to try and like me. I loved you once, but every day now, I see you have to force yourself to even be near me.” She felt the tears brim even though she didn’t want them either. It was probably going to hurt every time she said it out loud.
“Nora, I’m sorry.” He reached out to touch her face and she turned it away before he could.
“I’ll be spending the day with my mother,” she stated, and walked off to get in that pack car. She heard him or his wolf, she didn’t know which, roar in what she thought was pain, as she drove herself out of the pack. She was aiming to cause him pain. He deserved it, and as much as she was done with him and this pack. It was still going to hurt her on the day she actually rejected him.
A rejection always hurt, and she knew it would be no different for her, the tearing of him from her soul at her own doing. Regardless of the fact that it was what she wanted, it was still going to hurt. She didn’t see any of their cars following her, and she drove in silence all the way to the city, just focusing her thoughts on her
plan.
If he thought hearing she’d once loved him, which implied she no longer did, was painful, he knew nothing about what was coming. Though she supposed those very words she’d spoken could have made him feel the very beginning of their bond severing, she didn’t know. Didn’t really care right that minute either. Let him feel it, maybe it would make him try harder.
She’d also gotten out of answering his question, so she’d not had to lie to him about her former Alpha being in the know. She sighed to herself as she pulled up and got out of the pack car. Her mother was already standing near the shop waiting for her. It took her all of 10 seconds to lay eyes on her. She had been she knew smelling for her or feeling for their kin bond.
“Nora.” She hurried over to her and enfolded her in her arms and just hugged her all tightly.
Nora hugged her back. “I’m alright.” She murmured. “Just a few weeks now is all, and it’ll all be over.”
“I’m so sorry sweetheart.” She leaned back and looked at her.
“Me to.” she nodded. “But nothing in life is perfect. Not everyone gets the happy, blissful loved–up Mate Bond
now do they.”
“No,” her mother acknowledged. “You picked a dress though.”
“I have. Let’s go and try it on. It’s pretty and matches the tone of the events I’m setting into place.” Nora nodded and they walked into the dress store.
The lady went and got the dress she’d put on hold and brought it out for Nora to put on, and she did, stood in front of the mirror and looked at it as her mother came into the room. It was a lovely one–shouldered lace and satin dress, with a sweetheart neckline under the sheer black lace, lace that continued on down the entire bodice of the dress and fell away to the princess–style skirt. It also had a nice black lace choker to g
her neck.

Her mother smiled at her. “It’s very pretty, and looks beautiful on you,” she told her, and Nora could only think
so too.
She turned to the lady and told her she would take it, and removed the dress to put on her normal clothes once more. “Nora, are you sure you want to do it this way?” her mother asked her once more. “There is no

need to put yourself through all of this. You can come home, you know.”
“I know I can.” She nodded. Tm not going to. I’m going to leave that place in this dress and never look back Move into my dorm and attend my studies, work my ass off and maybe one day be able to build my own company, run it and be a damned good CEO, that any Alpha can be proud of… I’ll likely also not return to your pack. I don’t want Jace to ever be able to find me after it’s over. I’ll find a new pack, somewhere safe.” And
that was her plan for the moment.
“I’m unhappy about you not coming home, but I understand, and that could take some time.”
“I’ve got all the time in the world, mother.” She smiled at her. “It doesn’t matter if it takes me 20 years or 50 years. I will achieve my goal. Go public and show him what he truly lost, when he accepted our Mate Bond but had no intention of ever respecting it, or holding himself to it.”
Her mother nodded. “Well, we’re all behind you Nora, supporting you.”
“I know,” she nodded. She had a loving family and couldn’t have asked for a better pack to have grown up in. Maybe if it wasn’t so nice a place with so much respect and freedom given to all within it, she might not have the willpower or strength to get through all of this. She might not even know it was wrong, and that she could reject her Mate.
Some packs didn’t allow for that; Goddess–Gifted Mates were supposed to be sacred, and some pack Alphas made their pack members adhere to what the Goddess gave to them, not Alpha Clayton, thankfully, or he wouldn’t be willing to help her get out of this mess.
She had brunch with her mother, and they spent the day walking about just window shopping and talking about being on campus. She’d gotten shared accommodation with three other girls, but that was alright with her. She didn’t mind, they’d likely be human as well, again something she didn’t mind.
All she really wanted was to be away from his pack, that Mate of hers, so she could make something of herself and not just be seen as a breeder. “Are you coming mother or making an excuse not to?” she asked as they stood by her mother’s car.
“We’ll be attending, and I hear so will the Alpha and Luna, and they don’t think Jace is just going to give you up like you want him to. So are willing to step between you and him, and escort you from the pack. Take you back home, so to speak, seeing as he couldn’t do right by you.”
“Alright, that will be nice, though I doubt very much he will fight that hard for me, not after this morning. When he demanded to know if I’d made a fool of him by telling my previous Alpha, he does know you know now, he wanted to come and apologize to you for not holding my Luna Ceremony sooner.”
“And just how would he explain it?” her mother shook her head.
“Who knows, his only concern after that was had I told Alpha Clayton. He got all angry about it, so I doubt he’ll fight it, just likely accept it. Though I’m still hoping to make him think it’ll work out and, I’ll be accepting him back on the full moon, so that rejection when it comes will gut him. Only time will tell on that front.”
She hugged her mother goodbye and sat in that pack car and googled the latest Audi’s and picked. color just in case he asked her what she’d chosen, and then headed back to the pack.
