CH 76

He didn’t like the way Nora herself phrased that comment about the former Alpha and Lunas of her home pack all having been happy couples. It was a full dig at him, and he knew it, one he couldn’t say anything about either. Not when the Luna Ceremony was tomorrow, he had to keep the peace. He’d also been the one in the wrong, but that one statement told him she was likely never going to
let him forget it.
Seeing that Luna Nelly was heavily pregnant, as were the entire Luna’s unit, he could now understand why they had all come, though those things Clayton had to say about it; were worded, he thought, as a veiled insult to himself. Which meant that this Alpha knew Nora had been in the hospital, and he’d not been there himself.
Though he’d had a good reason for it that first time, not only hadn’t Nora wanted to see him, he’d been creating her a new study room for her. He’d hoped it would show her that he cared; not that it had. It had just been seen as he didn’t care at all to be by his Mate’s side, and then, of course, he’d
been seen with Gloria because she was in fact the Luna.
So it had gotten back to Nora that he was spending time with Gloria, which, yes, he had done but not like the pack stated it was. Nora, he’d known, was never going to believe him, so he’d just left it alone. She’d already been furious, and he’d not wanted to have her lose it again. She might not
come back from another episode.
Then Luna Nelly herself had words as well, about how late this Luna Ceremony was, voicing point blankly that she’d have left him thinking he didn’t care, stating how patient Nora was and had always been. He could only state she was also very forgiving.
There was nothing he could do about what they were all stating. He had invited them here for a reason. It wouldn’t have been at all necessary if he’d not been confused about love and the Mate Bond. He’d have held the Luna Ceremony the full moon after Nora had gotten here and none of this
would have happened at all.
It was very clear to him that they all knew what had happened here inside this pack, whether Nora herself had relayed it to her former Alpha or her own mother had? He didn’t know. But he understood their words, it was their way of indirectly trying to put him in his place for all the
mistakes he’d made.
He wondered if this was where Nora got her attitude from. She had put him in his place many times and in front of the pack like her former Alpha and Luna were doing. Though that comment about the Luna’s office, he couldn’t have them think she didn’t have one, though she’d not even told him what she wanted or where. All he knew was that it wasn’t going to be in the former Luna’s
office.

Stepping inside the packhouse, he could see her leaning on his office door frame, smiling and chatting happily with her former Luna’s unit and then the Luna herself. He heard Clayton chuckle,” Lunas do love other Lunas to hang out with, don’t they? Never does Nelly miss the opportunity to hang out with our allied Lunas and their women.
He’d nodded, but said nothing. Nora hadn’t even acknowledged his unit’s Mates. She wouldn’t. She didn’t want them for a Luna’s unit because of how they’d treated her, as nothing inside this pack. Something that was his fault yet again. They’d all just followed his lead where Nora and Gloria
were concerned.
Now they were all likely going to lose their positions as well. It wasn’t going to be pleasant; the day. she announced a new unit, though he’d told his unit and their Mates, none of them were happy about it. It was their actual right as the Alpha unit’s Mates, and they’d told him that, and had argued
with him one night over it.
He’d just stared at them and stated “What do you want me to do? She’s barely speaking to me. Do you want me to go up there and force her hand? You’d have her hate me instead of forgiving me. I’m not having that. When I’m trying to salvage my Mate Bond, doing that will only make her go
back to not wanting to be my Mate, or just reject me.
“You were the ones that ignored her at every turn, knew she was my Mate and yet you did nothing to try and pull me into line. You accepted it when she stepped back and bowed to you. None of you saw anything wrong with what was going on, and you’re all bloody mated. But I guess you’re all too concerned with your own positions within this pack, you’d all rather keep your positions and
see me lose my Mate.”
It had been an insult to them and, by extension, their own Mates; his own unit. He knew that, and although he had no one to blame but himself for how things had turned out. If just one of them had grabbed him, pulled him aside and told him it wasn’t right, he had to choose between them. He couldn’t have both of them at his side, that he’d turned into his father he’d have stopped it, and he
knew it. He would have made the decision not wanting to be like his father and ending up with the
same outcome, and therefore none of this would be happening now.
He watched Nora turn towards him and offered for him to walk with her to take Alpha Clayton and
his unit to their suites. It would be rude if he said no, but humiliating if he said yes, if they were
informed that her room was also down where theirs was.
He would have to suck it up. He just nodded and smiled at her. “Of course, I’ll walk with you, Nora.” He smiled at her and stepped over to her. “Why don’t we take the elevator? I know you favor the stairs, but four heavily pregnant women will not,” he stated. He also knew that the elevator was not near the Alpha Suite as the stairs were, so they wouldn’t see it. “I believe you’ve got everyone up on
the Alpha Floor.”
“I do,” she nodded, and turned back to Clayton, “this way.” She smiled. Nelly thankfully didn’t let go

of her arm and so that stopped everyone from seeing that he still wasn’t allowed to touch her. Not until after he’d pledged his loyalty, again just something that all of them he knew would actually
notice.
Lunas always walked about on their Alpha’s arms. He knew that Gloria had done it for the past 60 years, and had still done it while Nora was there to see it. It’s why he believed everyone in Clayton’s unit had gotten out of the cars and their own Mates had slipped their hands through the crook of their elbow. It was in fact how his own unit had been standing, yet he and Nora had not.
That one little thing hadn’t gone unnoticed by any of them, he was sure. Clayton fell in step with him when Jace dismissed his own unit. “Now Jace, are we all having dinner together tonight?”
“I would like that,” he nodded. “But Nora’s parents are… a little on the annoyed side with me, and
have already declined to have afternoon tea in my presence.”
“Hmm, kind of to be expected wouldn’t you think? It’s been five months, Jace. I honestly thought you weren’t going to recognize Nora at all,” he shook his head. “Kind of expected her to call me and ask to come home after the third full moon had passed, and still you’d not thanked Selena for gifting you such a brilliant Mate.”
“I was… Lacking.” He nodded as they got in the elevator. “Kind of forgot, I guess you could say.”
“What Alpha forgets the most important celebration for the entire pack. You’re certainly old
enough to know you’re supposed to hold a Luna Ceremony.”
“Yes I am.” He nodded. “I admit it was all my fault. I have also apologized to Nora multiple times,”
he commented, and turned to look at Nora; so did many others.
“You did.” She nodded. “Many times now.” she smiled a little. “I’ll speak with my parents about
dinner.”
He nodded, “I can only try to make up for my error, as one should do.”
“Good to hear you can openly admit to your mistakes. Alphas should be able to do that, especially
when they’re in the wrong. It shows good leadership to their pack, if they’re willing to be held accountable for their mistakes… Now enough of that, I will go down and bring up our things once I’ve seen Nelly in our room. I’d like, however, to keep my cars close to the packhouse in case she goes into labour.”
“That is fine,” Jace nodded. “There is the car park out the front and a loading dock with four parking bays off the side of the packhouse for deliveries, either of those places would be fine. If she does go into labour, you’ll need the car to get to the pack hospital. It’s down the bottom of the hill, a 10–minute walk from here.”
“Oh no, she won’t be walking if in labour.” Clayton shook his head. “Carried or driven she will be.”
He just nodded, that was to be expected. They stepped out of the elevator and Nora led them all

off down to where her suite was, and he got a raised eyebrow from Clayton. “Nora chose where you’d been staying. I would have put you all on the first floor, which is protocol, but Nora opted for the Alpha floor. I didn’t deny her what she wanted.
“Are there always flowers in the hall like this?” Nelly asked.
“Yes,” Nora answered her “I’m staying in a room down here to get ready for the Luna Ceremony. Jace had the flowers delivered as a surprise for me, to make the hallway look nice…” she smiled at
him. “Now we can all enjoy them.”
She showed them to the rooms, and they all walked inside, and Nora looked at him. “Thank you,” he
sighed.
“For what exactly?” she asked.
“The way you worded that,” Jace told her.
She looked at him. “I just told the truth,” she smiled, “they were just here out of the blue, because you sent them.” She looked down the hall; he’d had them replaced every three days. All brightly colored flowers, no red roses at all. There were none of those in the packhouse for her to see.
“I’d kiss you, you know, but…” he trailed off.
“That can wait,” she stated, but then latched onto his arm as he turned away, and he turned to look at her curiously and she reached up and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. “Go have a drink, you look like you could use one.” she stated and walked into her suite.
He couldn’t help but smile, she’d kissed him softly, been affectionate with him for the first time in
months. They were going to be fine. Maybe it would all be resolved with her Luna Ceremony. That and her former Alpha and Luna were addressing her as the Luna and treating her like one. Maybe she actually, finally, felt like a Luna.
