Nolan shook his head. “This is Saint Corp’s official transfer–of–power ceremony. There’s no way she wouldn’t show up. She’s just staying out of sight.”

Eliza thought it over and realized he was right. No matter how unwilling Wendy was, she had to attend an event like this otherwise, how would the handover even take place?

She swept her eyes across the room. With so many foreigners present, it was hard to tell who might be him. When her gaze landed on a few bald older men or slick, middle–aged types, she guessed they could be candidates.

“That one’s a real estate tycoon. The other’s a finance giant. None of them are Cramer,” Nolan said.

“So you’re telling me both Cramer and Wendy still haven’t shown up?”

What was this? The two most important people here and neither had made an appearance.

“Curious if he’s handsome?”

“As if. If he’s Leo’s son from his first marriage, he’s probably pushing forty by now. There’s no way he’s some handsome young man. Don’t start with your nonsense.”

“Oh… so that’s the story,” Eliza said, nodding, before suddenly narrowing her eyes. “Wait. Didn’t you say you didn’t know anything about the Chen family? How do you know this?”

“Just gossip. But seeing that face tonight, I’m inclined to believe it.”

Leo wasn’t a particularly handsome man, but it seemed his son’s looks were all thanks to a powerful set of genes from his mother.

Eliza found herself staring at Cramer for longer than she’d realized. He really was something to look at.

Nolan noticed her gaze lingering and felt an odd twist in his chest. “That good–looking, huh?”

“No, I’m just looking,” she said quickly.

“I’m better–looking than him.”

Seeing the faintly sulky look on his face, Eliza was struck by a twinge of guilt. “I’m just looking. It’s not like I’m planning anything.”

“A lot of scumbags say the same thing.”

Eliza coughed lightly. “I’m not like them. We’re already engaged, just waiting on the engagement party. I would never cheat.”
