Chapter 536 The Engagement Trap
Every word out of Cramer’s mouth grated against Wendy’s ears.
–
In her entire life, nothing irritated Wendy more than being called “Madam Cullinan.” Out of respect and to avoid offending her – her subordinates usually called her “Madam. Wendy” instead. But the moment someone said “Madam Cullinan,” it reminded everyone she had only been Leo’s second wife.
Wendy stepped toward Cramer, her expression void of even a hint of a smile.
Down below, Eliza squeezed Nolan’s hand. “When do we make a move?”
“Definitely not now,” he replied.
With so many people around, trying anything would only get them thrown out. Nolan’s men were stationed outside, but they couldn’t just storm in. This was Westbrook, not foreign ground – they had to keep things discreet.
“Welcome, everyone, to my son Cramer’s banquet,” Wendy announced into the microphone. “Tonight marks the Saint Corp handover ceremony. I’m sure you’re all looking forward to hearing my son speak. Under Cramer’s leadership, Saint Corp will reach an even greater future.”
Every “my son” out of her mouth seemed to test Cramer’s patience.
Eliza leaned toward Nolan, smirking. “I give it two more sentences before he snaps.”
Even outsiders like them could read the dislike on Cramer’s face. There was no way the locals didn’t notice — the tension between them was practically entertainment for the crowd.
–
And then, still smiling sweetly, Wendy slipped her arm through Cramer’s.
“Tonight isn’t just the Saint Corp handover,” she continued brightly. “It’s also the day my son announces his engagement.”
Cramer’s expression cooled instantly. But since Wendy had already put the words out there, he couldn’t publicly contradict her
not yet.
“My goddaughter, Vivian.”
–
At her cue, a young woman emerged from the corner -a vision straight out of a fairy tale. She had the delicate beauty of a porcelain doll: flawless pale skin, crystal–blue eyes, and a cascade of golden hair
Wendy’s move was ruthless
The moment Vivian appeared, she drew every gaze in the room. Even Eliza found herself glancing twice.

Vivian came forward, her elegant steps carrying her to Wendy’s side. She looked up at Cramer with the shy reserve of a young maiden.
Cramer’s brows drew together the moment he saw her.
But Wendy, clearly pleased with herself, pushed Vivian toward him. “My goddaughter Vivian and Mr. Cramer will soon be engaged. Thank you, everyone, for witnessing this perfect match.”
Every word was calculated to box Cramer in.
–
Eliza saw it instantly this was Wendy planting her own person at Cramer’s side. If his fiancée was her goddaughter, then no matter what happened in the future, their fates would be tied.
Vivian stood beside him, looking every bit the flawless match.
“Didn’t expect Wendy to be this vicious,” Eliza murmured. “I’ve never found a single record of her having a goddaughter.”
—
She had spent days combing through Saint Corp and Wendy’s history no mention of Vivian anywhere. This pawn had clearly been kept hidden for years.
Nolan’s voice dropped low. “I’m heading to the corner. I’ll find a way to stir things up. You stay here- don’t move.”
“What exactly are you going to do?”
“Make the room a little… chaotic.”
Before she could press him, Nolan was already moving toward the shadows.
From the balcony above, Wendy scanned the crowd and spotted Eliza.
—
Her brows tightened, surprise flashing across her face. She leaned to whisper something to Vivian, who gave a small nod.
Moments later, Wendy turned to leave.
Cramer noticed her movement and was about to follow – but Vivian caught his arm, smiling sweetly. “The ceremony’s about to start. Let me stay with you.”
Cramer’s eyes chilled. In one swift motion, he pulled her into his arms.
“When I’m speaking or acting,” he said flatly, “I don’t like to be interrupted. Remember that.”
