Chapter 584 The Price of a Scar

Hearing what Soren said, Eliza became more certain that this clinic was tailored for high- spending clients. No doubt many celebrities were already regulars there. For her to request anti–aging treatments seemed nearly impossible.
Her age alone was a barrier, and judging from the manager’s cautious attitude, their staff had been trained to stay alert. The slightest misstep would tip them off, and then not only would she uncover nothing, she might put herself in danger.
“Your company must have some older celebrities, right?”
“There are a few, but none that old. Not even forty yet. They’re considered washed–up by then.”
Soren’s company hadn’t been around very long. At the start, they had indeed promoted a handful of middle–aged actors, but their prime faded quickly. With limited roles and weak acting skills, many were swiftly eliminated by the market. For middle–aged actors, jobs were
scarce.
“I think this clinic is hiding something. Could you find some of those older actors or celebrities from your company and send them there to check it out?”
Soren quickly grasped her meaning.
“I understand, but if we want to investigate that clinic, we’d need someone trustworthy. And in this industry, those are rare. It won’t be easy.”
Eliza fell silent.
If no older celebrities could be trusted to go, then the only option left was herself.
“I have an idea.”
Before she could finish, Nolan cut her off, already sensing her intent. “No.”
He didn’t hesitate for a second, flatly rejecting it.
“I only said I had an idea. You don’t even know what it is yet.”
“If you’re thinking of hurting yourself, don’t even try.”
Nolan knew Eliza must have been reminded of Naomi’s injuries. Naomi’s facial scars had made her eligible for reconstructive treatment, but Nolan would never let Eliza risk herself that way.
On the other end of the call, Soren listened to their argument. His voice was cool. “No need to fight over it. This is my world. If anyone can investigate without raising suspicion, it’s me.”

“You-”
“I’ll give you results within three days.”
And with that, Soren hung up.
The abrupt silence left Eliza uneasy.

The very next day, explosive news broke online. A headline blared: During filming, star Soren suffered accidental burns and was rushed to the hospital.
When she saw it, Eliza bolted upright.
She had felt something was wrong during yesterday’s call, and now it was clear deliberately gotten himself injured so he could enter Ventus for treatment.

Soren had
But wasn’t this just wounding a thousand enemies while harming himself eight hundred?
Nolan didn’t say a word, but Eliza could sense how deeply he cared for his younger brother.
“Should we go visit him?”
She knew Nolan must be worried sick. They could easily go to the hospital now to check on his condition.
But just as she pulled on his arm, Nolan pressed her hand down. “We can’t.”
If they went now, they might alert the enemy. Soren clearly had a plan, and they couldn’t afford to disrupt it.
Hearing that, Eliza forced herself to hold back, though her chest was tight with dread. Soren had risked himself, and she feared what might happen next.
Meanwhile, inside the hospital.
His manager stared at him with nothing but worry. “How could you be so careless? Didn’t they tell you to stay away from the fire during filming?”
Soren said nothing.
His arm was streaked with burn marks. Not a massive injury, but for an actor, even scars on the arm could derail a career.
“What did the doctor say?”
“He said the burns cover a wide area. You’ll need a skin graft. But whether it will heal perfectly, they can’t promise.”

At those words, Soren’s expression finally turned cold.
In that case, his objective had been achieved.
