But Wendy couldn’t let Morten wake up yet. If he opened his eyes without their shared memories, then he wouldn’t truly be Morten.

For years she had worked with that person in the shadows, all to use cloning technology to bring Morten back to life.
The man lying here carried Morten’s genes, his exact appearance–he was another being split from Morten’s own body. With the help of modern science, Wendy was pouring every fragment of Morten’s life, his memories, and his essence into this clone. Once the process was complete, Morten would live again. Then the two of them could be together forever.
Wendy gazed into the mirror.
The reflection staring back at her was that of a woman in her early thirties, her body radiating mature allure.
She no longer resembled the young girl she once had been.
Compared to the Morten inside the chamber–who appeared to be in his twenties–she was, undeniably, older.
“I’ve tried so hard to become the woman I once was, but I still haven’t finished this technology. I know my Morten would never despise me. Whether I’m thirty, forty, or fifty… even if my hair turns white, you’ll still love me.”
Her hand caressed Morten’s face, and she pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Just then, the bodyguard at the door signaled her through the communicator.
Wendy immediately left the underground lab.
When she emerged, the guard said, “There’s news from the security office–Eliza and Nolan are here, and Miss Vivian came with them.”
Hearing that Vivian had returned, Wendy quickly suppressed the sorrow on her face. She ordered, “Guard this place well. Don’t let anyone near.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The guard stayed at his post.
Wendy took the elevator upstairs alone.
Vivian stood in the grand hall with Eliza and Nolan, waiting.

“So this is where you grew up? The place looks pretty nice.”

Vivian nodded shyly. “I wasn’t healthy as a child. Mom had me live here, and I’ve stayed for almost twenty years.”
Eliza and Vivian chatted like lifelong friends, sharing everything openly.
Wendy, watching this scene, remained silent as she approached. Then she said, “I thought I had already cut ties with her. What is it you want, coming here now?”
“I already told Eliza about the act I put on before. He’s a good man. It was thanks to him that Cramer fell for me.”
Vivian trusted Eliza deeply and even spoke up for him in front of her mother.
Wendy knew her goddaughter’s personality well, but she wasn’t foolish. Eliza had his reasons for helping Vivian–no one was kind without cause.
She said coolly, “I know about what happened before, and I never thanked Ms. Rivers properly. But the recent trouble in Westbrook shouldn’t have anything to do with Ms. Rivers or Mr. Hayes, should it?”
She had once thought Eliza wanted to cooperate after helping Vivian win Cramer’s heart. But now that her Westbrook network had been destroyed, Wendy’s suspicion had returned.
Tyson had assured her he wasn’t the one behind it. That left only one possibility—Nolan.
She was probing to see if Eliza and Nolan were here for that reason. But Eliza replied, “Yes, that’s why we came. Nolan wanted to explain it to you personally. I’ll step aside.”
After Eliza spoke, Vivian quickly grabbed her hand. “Godmother won’t mind something like that. And since it’s your first time here, come see my
room.”
“All right.”
Eliza nodded.
Vivian led her to the elevator. Wendy didn’t think much of it–after all, Eliza alone could never discover anything important in her estate.
“Mr. Hayes, whatever you have to say, just say it.”
