Cramer’s men didn’t stop Wendy. They let her rush out into the night.
But her guards weren’t as lucky. Surrounded, they couldn’t leave the estate.

Upstairs, Vivian couldn’t rest easy. She slipped downstairs and froze at the sight of Cramer’s men stationed all around the property. Her unease grew heavier.
She hurried to Cramer’s side and clutched his arm. “Cramer, what is this? What have you done?”
He rose from the sofa, steadying her by the shoulders. “You and Wendy are no longer connected. Whatever I do has nothing to do with you. Don’t worry–I won’t go too far.”
His words only deepened her dread. She didn’t know what her mother had done, but she had heard the whispers–Cramer and Wendy were sworn enemies.
“But no matter what, she’s still my mother. Can’t you… not go after her?”
“I told you, this is between her and me.”
His voice cooled, his eyes turning sharp again. “Your health is weak. You shouldn’t be burdening yourself with this. I’ll have someone take you home now. Rest well. Tomorrow, all of this will be behind you.”
Vivian tried to argue, but Cramer’s guard had already taken her by the arm, urging her toward the door. His tone left no room for debate.
Biting her lip, Vivian lowered her gaze. She couldn’t change anything. She could only allow herself to be led away.
Cramer turned back to the estate, his eyes sweeping over the mansion. From this night on, none of it would belong to Wendy.

Wendy sped through the dark streets, fury and dread twisting her face.
She couldn’t reach her captain. The silence only confirmed her worst fear.
She drove to the hidden property where she had ordered Morten’s clone to be kept. It was one of her private foreign villas, rarely visited, secluded enough to be invisible to the world.
But she didn’t know Eliza and Nolan had been watching from the moment she fled.

Wendy’s heart was consumed by one thought: Morten’s safety. She didn’t see the car that shadowed her.
When she reached the villa, the street was deathly quiet. Still, she hurried to unlock the door, determined to check on him.
And then–the glare of headlights flooded over her.
Dozens more lit up the street, trapping her in a blinding cage of white.
She turned, and there they were. Nolan and Eliza stepped out of their car, their eyes fixed on her like hunters who had waited for this very moment.
Her stomach dropped. It was a trap.
Her captain was gone. The guards she had trusted–captured.
But even then, she shoved the door open and ran inside.
Nothing mattered but Morten.
Eliza and Nolan didn’t stop her. Watching her desperate back, Eliza felt a pang. She understood. Running toward the one you love was never wrong.
Inside, Wendy reached the chamber.
“Morten… did I scare you today?”
