Chapter 8
After resting for a few days, Kate reunited with her birth parents, and the family cried together.
When they brought up the old engagement, Kate’s expression turned cold. “James was sleeping around with other women behind my back. I was so upset that I ran out in the middle of the night, got in that car accident, and Derek took advantage of my vulnerability/
“I will never forgive James. Let’s call off this engagement!”
Her parents didn’t push it – their daughter’s happiness was what mattered most.
After a few days of preparation, they held a grand homecoming ceremony for her.
James showed up that day too.
He stared intently at the girl on stage in her pearl dress, his eyes burning with intensity.
It really was her…
She was back…
He’d been searching for her for so long, thinking he’d never see her again in this lifetime.
She’d finally come back…
Kate went to the dressing room to change clothes. As soon as she opened the door, she fell into a burning embrace.
The overwhelming masculine scent washed over her as her lips were sealed. “Let me go… mmph…”
James held her tight and refused to let go.
Kate slapped him hard across the face.
“Stop pretending! James, if it wasn’t for you, how would I have ended up like this?”
“You slept with your precious first love and drove me crazy in the middle of the night. Everything that happened to me is your fault! I hate you, and I’ll never forgive you!”
James’s brow furrowed deeper as he made a phone call.
Soon, his identical twin brother arrived.
“Kate, you’ve really misunderstood! The person who slept with… with Betty that night wasn’t my brother, it was me… Betty is my girlfriend…”
“I’m so sorry Kate, we caused such a huge misunderstanding…”
Kate was stunned.
“Then why didn’t you explain back then?”
James looked hurt. “I wasn’t even there that night. My brother was going to explain to you, but you ran out without letting him say a word. By the time he got dressed and chased after you, you’d already disappeared…”

So it had all been a misunderstanding.
Kate hung her head and said nothing.
James felt relieved. “Now that we’ve cleared this up, can we… continue with our engagement?”
He looked at her carefully, but Kate refused. “Torget it, I… I’ve already been married… You’ll definitely find someone better…”
With that, she ran away.
James stared at her retreating figure for a long time, then made a call with a dark tone. “Investigate. Find out everything about Kate’s experiences these past years. I want to know who dared to hurt her, who dared to trick her into marriage!”
For the next few days, there was no word from James.
Kate felt both relieved and disappointed.
She remembered all those memories that had flooded back – every bit of James’s consideration and tenderness toward her.
When she was five, little him holding little her’s hand, saying in front of the wooden castle that he’d marry her someday.
When she was ten, their families arranged their engagement, and he excitedly said he’d build a real castle to hide her in.
When she was seventeen, he confessed his love and she became his girlfriend, giving him her first kiss and all her love.
But when she was twenty–one, she lost her memory in the car accident and forgot her lifelong love.
Kate felt her heart aching. She finally understood what it meant to truly love someone.
She slept until afternoon when she was woken by commotion.
The Sullivan family had come to propose marriage.
“Kate, I don’t care about your past, and I don’t mind if you’ve been married before. All I know is that you’re the bride I decided to marry when I was three years old.”
“Kate, I’ve finally found you again. Will you marry me?”
James knelt on one knee, holding a diamond ring the size of a pigeon’s egg, looking at her with deep affection.
