Lewis trailed after Zaden stubbornly and strode right back into the room behind him.

Once inside, he deliberately brushed past Zaden and dropped into the only chair by Athena’s bed before Zaden could claim it. Zaden noticed but didn’t bother fighting over it; he simply slipped one hand into his pocket and stood silently at her side.
“Athena, how are you feeling? This hospital’s reputation isn’t great. Let me move you somewhere better.”
Athena felt like she’d had barely five minutes of peace before the pounding in her head returned.
Lewis really is like a ghost that just won’t leave me alone.
Even after our divorce, he keeps clinging to me like a freaking bubble gum stuck to my jeans!
“No need. This place is fine. Besides, I’ll be working here soon anyway. It’s good for me to get used to the environment.”
At the word “work,” Lewis’s expression shifted ever so slightly.
He had always thought of Athena as nothing more than a housewife with no skills to speak of. It had never occurred to him that she actually had medical knowledge.
His gaze dropped to her hands, swaddled in thick bandages.
For a moment, guilt and regret flickered in his eyes.
“If you want a job, I can set something up for you,” Lewis said quickly. “You don’t have to waste your time in some small private hospital.”
I know Zaden’s the one who arranged to have Athena stay here.
I’m not gonna allow them to be together. I have to drive a wedge between them before anything deeper develops!
In his mind, there was still a chance for him and Athena. They could reconcile.
Maybe Zaden has feelings for her, but he will never marry her
Even if Zaden overlooks her past, the Storms never will.
Zaden and Athena are doomed from the start!

“Lewis, are you trying to make me furious? My life is mine to decide. You don’t get a say- you’ve lost that right.”
Athena’s tone hardened, her face set with anger.
Seeing her temper rise, Lewis instantly softened his voice, eager to soothe her. “Alright, alright, it’s my fault. I won’t push you. But if you change your mind, I’ll always be here to help. Please don’t stay upset with me.”
Lewis looked at her with eyes full of false tenderness, his expression carefully painted with lingering affection.
“Just rest,” he murmured. “I’ll stay right here with you.”
Athena’s patience snapped. She yanked the blanket up and rolled away from him, deciding she wasn’t going to waste another word.
Lewis sat faithfully at her side, putting on the performance of a devoted man.
To anyone who didn’t know the truth, he looked like someone deeply in love, hovering anxiously over the woman he cherished.
Zaden watched for a moment, silent and unreadable, then turned and left the room.
Only once Zaden was gone did Lewis glance back, the corner of his mouth curling into a smug, mocking smile. Zaden wanted to take his wife? Not a chance.
Athena’s wounds weren’t serious, and she had no desire to stay in the hospital any longer.
Not with Lewis haunting her bedside, playing the part of the caring ex. She couldn’t recover in peace with him there.
She thought of asking Zaden to discharge her, to let her heal at home instead.
But Zaden hadn’t come back.
And when she thought about it, he hadn’t returned at all since Lewis showed up. Is he deliberately keeping his distance, giving me space with Lewis?
The idea left her Bitter and speechless, as if she’d swallowed something foul she couldn’t spit
out.
Lewis and I are divorced. We’re strangers, really. Zaden has no reason to leave us alone like this!
She wanted to find him and bring up leaving the hospital, but with Lewis plastered to her side,
she had no chance.

Casting him a sidelong glance, Athena asked coolly, “Don’t you have work? You’ve been here all day. I’m fine. You should go.”
