This is supposed to be a family summer camp–are Athena and Zaden really showing up as a family?
Lewis refused to believe it.
He convinced himself that Zaden must have pulled some strings to allow Athena to come along, that she wasn’t truly linked to him in any meaningful way.
Without a word, Zaden subtly shifted, positioning himself to shield Athena behind him.
He lifted his gaze to Lewis, his voice cold and sharp. “Mr. Belmont, you sure have a very unique way of saying hello.”
Seeing them standing so close, Lewis’s irritation flared.
He nearly lunged forward, ready to tear them apart.
“Lewis!”
Nina finally reacted, hurrying to grab his arm.
Lewis tried instinctively to shake her off, his face tight with impatience.
But Nina held on, refusing to release him.
Perhaps thinking of the family’s reputation, Lewis finally restrained himself, letting her grip
remain.
The awkward tug–of–war almost made Athena stifle a laugh.
Nina’s smile was bright, as if nothing unpleasant had ever happened, and she said to Athena, “Athena, what a surprise! I didn’t expect to see you here. What a coincidence.”
“It really is,” Athena replied, though her tone betrayed none of the happiness the words. suggested. It felt more like bad luck than coincidence.
She had no desire to see Lewis or Nina. Just looking at them reminded her of her past mistakes. Yet now she was stuck here, with no way to back out.
Dion trailed behind Nina, looking subdued. The arrogance he once carried was replaced by a weary, beaten–down demeanor.
Father and son mirrored each other in their dejection.

After Dion’s parentage had been revealed, he had been sent to the countryside for a few days. The time away had dulled his sharp edges and worn him down. If not for Bridget pushing Lewis and Nina to salvage the family’s reputation, he might never have returned.
Even in the countryside, he had begun to miss Athena’s kindness.
Nina hadn’t visited him even once.
Dion regretted everything, despair weighing him down. The moment he saw Athena again, his eyes lit up–like a lost ship spotting a lighthouse in the darkness.
But Athena never once looked at him.
Does Mom not love me anymore?
His gaze shifted to Teri, sitting beside Athena, and jealousy flared in his chest.
The other families had heard whispers of Athena and Lewis’s past. Watching them now, facing each other again, their expressions held a sense of anticipation, as if they were spectators at a drama waiting to unfold.
It felt less like a peaceful summer camp and more like a staged battle.
An ex–husband and ex–wife, divorced, now standing with their new partners–could this get any more dramatic?
The other participants were nearly distracted from the activities entirely, captivated by the
tension.
Just then, a man in hiking gear approached.
His hair was neatly trimmed, his features sharp and masculine. His skin was tanned and healthy, his build strong and athletic.
He greeted everyone politely. “Hello, everyone! I’m your group leader for this camp, Ronan Beckett. I trust you’ve all had a chance to get acquainted.
“Next, I’ll briefly introduce the families for this summer camp.
“The first family is Thomas and Linda Blander, with Bryan.”
“The second family is Zaden and Athena Storm, with Teri.”
“The third family is Eddie and Mabel Robinson, with Nancy.”
“The fourth family is Albas and Pandra Blaise, with Sam.”
