Things had seemed to go smoothly for Lewis and his ex. Apart from a few minor bumps, their divorce had wrapped up without much trouble.

Athena let out a tired sigh.

It looked like she and Zaden weren’t going to be free anytime soon.

Neither of them spoke during the ride. Lost in thought, they didn’t even notice when the car stopped outside Athena’s building.

She blinked back to focus, slipped her phone into her bag, and turned to Zaden. “Thanks for the ride. I’ll head up now. I checked the online system earlier, but there weren’t any available slots yet. Once I get an appointment to file for divorce, I’ll let you know.”

She unbuckled her seatbelt.

Just as she moved, Zaden caught her wrist. Athena turned. “What’s wrong?”

Zaden’s gaze lingered on her. “Can we talk for a bit?”

Athena frowned slightly, puzzled but curious, and decided to stay seated. She closed the car door again. Silence filled the space.

“What do you want to talk about?”

She tried to guess his reason but couldn’t come up with anything. The uncertainty made her

tense.

Her hands curled into fists as she waited for him to speak, her breathing shallow.

“Athena.”

“I’m listening.”

Zaden looked straight at her, his expression unreadable. “Teri really likes you.”

So what?

Honestly, that was the reason she had agreed to his impulsive marriage proposal in the first place; because she had a soft spot for Teri and felt a strange connection with the child. Even though it hadn’t been long, a lot had happened between them.

Zaden’s eyes darkened. “I have a bold request. I’m not sure if you’ll agree…”

Athena’s heart tightened. “What is it?”

“Would you consider dating me for three months? If things go well, you could officially be Teri’s mother.”

Athena’s eyes widened in disbelief. She froze completely.

Dating Zaden for three months?

Becoming Teri’s mom permanently?

Her brain went blank.

She didn’t know what to say, and Zaden didn’t rush her. He simply waited patiently for her to process it.

Athena stared at him, blinking in shock.

“Zaden, are you out of your mind?”

She couldn’t wrap her head around the words coming from him.

Didn’t he just get a message from his ex earlier?

If her guess was right, there were still feelings there. Even if Zaden had moved on, his ex clearly hadn’t.

Zaden caught the way her brows furrowed and how her expression shifted, and he asked softly, “What’s making you uncomfortable?”

He’d meant to bring it up later, but after seeing her so determined to end things, even checking the divorce booking right in front of him, he couldn’t hold back anymore.

Athena met his eyes cautiously. “It’s not that… It’s just, I saw a message pop up on your phone

earlier. Was that

your ex?”

Then it clicked for him.

So that was what she’d been thinking. She believed he still had something going on with his ex.

He sighed, a little exasperated. “Yeah, that was her. But we haven’t talked since we broke up.”
