Athena glanced around at the guests and spoke in a clear, steady voice. “As everyone can see, Lewis has been cheating for eight years. He’s been living with his lover and raising a child with her, while I was kept completely in the dark. Today, I’m here to make an announcement…

“I’m divorcing Lewis.”

Lewis’s face darkened, panic flashing in his eyes. He rushed out, “Athena, you seriously want a divorce? You’re really gonna leave me?”

Seeing the look of disbelief on his face, Athena couldn’t help but laugh.

This man had been cheating with Nina all along, using her from the very beginning. Now he looked at her like she was the one who betrayed him. How ridiculous.

Athena’s face showed a cold, mocking smile. Her eyes, sharp and icy, swept over Lewis. “Lewis,” she said softly, “I wish you and Nina happiness.

“From the start, when you met me, you already had something else in mind, didn’t you? I was just a cover–a stand–in, basically a servant you used to protect Nina.

“Now that you’ve squeezed out every bit of use from me, I guess it’s time for me to step aside and make room for her.”

Lewis’s lips parted slightly. “That’s not true!”

When he first met Athena, he really hadn’t planned it that way–but later…

“Not true?” Athena cut him off with a bitter laugh. “Can you really say none of this is true? But the fact that you and Nina had Dion–that’s real, isn’t it?”

Lewis’s chest tightened painfully.

“You’re a monster, Lewis!” Athena’s voice rose, trembling with fury. “You killed my daughter and then made me raise Nina’s son for eight years. You have no heart!”

Her eyes burned with hatred, so cold and cutting that Lewis froze in place,

He stumbled forward a few steps. “Athena … ”

She knew. She actually knew everything. Lewis didn’t expect this.

He thought Nina’s outburst earlier had merely revealed Dion’s true parentage, but now it was clear that Athena knew far more than he imagined.

The thought sent a wave of panic through him, one deeper than anything he’d ever felt.

Athena didn’t want to hear another word. She had come here for one reason: to sever all ties.

She was determined to get a divorce.

Ironically, Nina’s little stunt tonight just made it easier.

Athena turned to leave.

But Nina suddenly stepped in front of her, blocking her path. She had seen Lewis’s lingering attachment to Athena, and fear twisted in her chest. What if Lewis refused to divorce her? That couldn’t happen.

So Nina had provoked Athena into coming here. Saying Dion was her son just to break Athena down was only the start.

She had something even more shocking prepared for what came next.

“Athena, you can’t leave!” Nina’s sharp voice cut through the noise. She pulled out a few sheets of paper and shoved them toward Athena. “There’s a divorce agreement right here,” she said smugly. “If you sign it, agreeing to divorce Lewis and walk away with nothing, you can leave right now.”

Her smile widened, filled with arrogance. “Don’t even think about taking Lewis’s money. You’re not getting a dime. You’ll leave with nothing. Everything Lewis owns belongs to me and Dion!”

Nina didn’t want Athena to have it easy–not even a little. What she feared most was that Lewis might give Athena part of his wealth after the divorce. If that happened, Athena would walk away happy. Nina couldn’t stand the thought.

Around them, the guests had finally started to understand what was going on.

Lewis had cheated, kept a lover, and let his wife raise that lover’s child for eight long years. And now, the boy had grown up, and he wanted to throw his wife out like trash.

Lewis’s character disgusted everyone.

Even among the rich–where affairs were nothing new–this was on another level. Sure, plenty of men had lovers. But they usually handled things quietly–with money, a settlement, and a graceful goodbye. Even when there were illegitimate children, no one would dare bring one home to replace their wife’s own child.

What Lewis did shocked everyone. Many people thought his actions were downright shameless.
