It seemed Zaden had been badly hurt by his ex. Otherwise, how else could he be the way Harriet described?
“See? You’re basically the angel heaven sent to rescue Zaden!”
Athena’s mouth twitched.
She couldn’t help but admire Harriet’s wild imagination.
Just then, Zaden’s voice cut through the room. “Harriet, what are you doing here?”

Both women jumped. Harriet snapped her mouth shut and gave him a silly smile, while Athena awkwardly brushed her hair back from her temple.
She couldn’t tell if Zaden had overheard the things Harriet said just now.
She didn’t harbor any silly hopes.
But that didn’t mean Zaden wouldn’t misunderstand.
They’d already had enough awkward run–ins. If he caught wind of this too, she wouldn’t know how to face him.
Luckily, Zaden’s face stayed calm, his expression unreadable.
It looked like he hadn’t heard anything after all.
Athena breathed a little easier.
Harriet smiled and said quickly, “I was just worried Athena had nothing to eat, so I brought her some food. I didn’t expect you and Teri to be here. I’ll leave now and not interrupt your little world. Bye.”
With that, she slipped out.
Athena went speechless for a moment.
She had just been relieved, only to get dragged back into another embarrassing mess!
Zaden turned to her. “Athena, I have something to tell you.”
Athena pushed aside the swirl of thoughts in her head and followed him to the couch. She sat down, a spark of curiosity rising. She couldn’t help but wonder what Zaden wanted to say.

After thinking for a moment, Zaden finally spoke. “The hearing is in two days. Are you ready?”
Athena froze, then realized she had spent the last few days living almost peacefully.
She let out a small laugh. “I’ve been preparing all along.”
Zaden gave a short nod. He lifted his gaze to her, his voice deep. “I wish you success.”
Athena blinked, then smiled.
So he’d called her over just to cheer her on.
Two days passed quickly.
Today was Athena’s divorce hearing. After staying hidden in the villa for a week, she could finally walk out in the open.
Kit’s car waited outside, with Harriet already inside.
Before Athena left, Teri ran up and threw her arms around her. Teri clenched her tiny fist and grinned. “Athena, you can do it!”
Zaden stood behind her, he and Teri looking like a picture–perfect father and daughter.
For a moment, Athena felt like she was looking at a husband and child seeing their wife and mother off to work.
She quickly shoved that messy thought aside. She stroked Teri’s cheek and smiled. “Teri, you’re such a sweetheart.”
With a wave to them both, Athena turned and left.
When they reached the courthouse, Harriet told Athena that Lewis hadn’t shown up.
She muttered under her breath, “Do you think Lewis isn’t going to show up?”
Then she added, “But don’t worry. Even if he doesn’t come, it won’t affect the case.
“We’ve got solid evidence. Him staying away only weakens his side. With no lawyer to object, it might actually go easier for you.”
As she spoke, Lewis appeared.
He was dressed in a sharp suit, looking as handsome as ever. But his eyes on Athena were dark and sharp, filled with confidence, even arrogance.
Athena’s face stayed calm.
