Nina froze, her voice trembling. “Of course it was me, Lewis. You’ve asked me this so many times. Don’t you believe me? It really was me who saved you back then…”

“You’re lying!”

Lewis’s eyes darkened as he glared at her. His teeth clenched. “Athena saved me, not you! You’ve been lying to me all these years!”

Nina’s pupils shrank, and her lips parted.

She wanted to argue.

But the fury on Lewis’s face told her he already knew the truth.

Who told him? Was it Athena?

But hadn’t Lewis never believed Athena? Why would he suddenly choose to believe her now?

Nina stayed silent for a long time, unsure if she should admit it or keep playing dumb.

Lewis’s eyes reddened. He stepped forward, grabbed Nina by the throat, and growled between his teeth, “Nina, how dare you trick me!”

Nina hadn’t expected him to lash out.

Her face turned red. She clawed at his hands, gasping.

“Let … let me go… Lewis!”

His grip tightened inch by inch. The more he had once loved and spoiled her, the more he now hated her. Even the sight of her disgusted him.

Just as Nina’s vision began to fade, the doorbell rang sharply.
